If it's a "good" team, I don't mind making a statement. But against these schools that shouldn't be on the field with us, I don't like it. Doesn't prove much.

LSU 84, Bama 0

Yeah. I could enjoy that.

LSU 4 - Alabama 0

I would like that, too.

41-3 looks better than 84-0 IMO

a blowout that bag makes LSU seem classless

I like winning by a large margin but not running up the score. You risk injuries, give the gumps too much film, unnecessarily demoralize the other team, etc. I say if you're up by 20 start letting back-ups rotate in slowly eventually getting to where no starters are in (unless it's Bama)

one thing i admire about CLM despite some of his inattention to detail is his knack for keeping the big picture in mind. in the 4th quarter, when the opportunity presents to run up the score, CLM is already on to the next game, keeping the larger picture in perspective (BCS Championship).

i think his highest priority rather than running up the score is give young guys extra live-action reps doing fundamental running/blocking plays. the same kind of plays that makes LSU football dominant, albeit somewhat humdrum offensively at times.

an argument can be made is that the lack of fireworks could keep us out of the BCS/ESPN/AP/USCLovers beauty contest for points. that said, we completely control our own destiny. we take care of business and we are in.

the other big question is, perhaps, whether our own fundamental running/blocking is sufficient to outpace that of or division rival, whose coach seems to keep the big picture in mind, but who seems to be a bit better with the details.

but CLM is a competitor and strategist. and i'd rather ride the CLM train than the CNS express. one is a like an amusement park roller coaster. the other is a cauldron of anger, insecurity and self-loathing.

If I were on a team losing 84-0, I would have one goal and one goal only: Hurt somebody. When a team is being disrespected that badly, I couldn't blame them for, say, trying to take out the other team's QB.

I'm not a fan of humiliating football teams but you have to continue playing the game. Perhaps with reserves but the intensity should not drop off in the least.

There are coaches looking to pile on the points and there are coaches who make the needed personnel changes but continue to coach the new players up. I have no problem with the latter type of coach.

Or...maybe you could play some defense? If on offense, maybe get some first downs, keep the clock running and shorten the game?

Why risk losing your eligibility by doing something dumb? You're there to play football - play football.

You have an opponent beaten down thoroughly, just run the ball until the clock stops and get out with no injury

When a team is that physically superior to an opponent the opposing coach might prefer the victor to pass the ball compared to pulping his players into oblivion. Regardless, Rivers should be in working the pass game as that is what is needed, handing the ball off isn't doing much for his experience in the even ZM misses playing time. The Savannah St/FSU game was called in the 3rdQ due to bad weather, they are likely the worst FBS/FCS team by a long shot.

This. I loved the way we got Miami back in the 2005 Peach Bowl.

Game plan. We like scoring 41 points. We think no other team can score 41 points or more on us. That makes us win.

Wrong team, and lousy point.

both were against Savannah state if memory serves, trying to impress the pollsters, I like how we have been getting younguns some much needed PT and also trying some things at the expense of higher scores.

There's an old saying that practice makes perfect. The saying is wrong. Practice makes permanent. Only perfect practice makes perfect. If Les runs the 1's out there and lets them sloppily put up a gaudy score, sloppy will leak its way into the next week's work. So he wants the starters to methodically and with focus run the LSU offensive and defensive schemes for a half-ish and then he will pull them to give the backups some reps without unduly embarrassing the opponent. This is a professional, classy and sportsmanlike approach. And it's the right approach.

We still owe Florida for that 58-3 buttfracking we took from them in '93.

i think our 36-7 beatdown of them in the swamp in 2002 and our 41-11 beatdown last year were pretty good. we scored on a 50 yard play with our punter and had it called back for "taunting." being taunted by a punter, in itself, is demoralizing

at what point do they pull the first string?

Hopefully afer 1st quarter. Would really like to see some of the younger guys (especially JHill assuming he's not redshirted), get the backup QBs a lot of snaps, protect the starters.

Let's see...if we took a knee with 5 minutes to go against Ole Miss last year, when does this take place with Idaho? Half-time?

Im glad Les handles this the way he does. No sense in demoralizing them.

This.

I will never understand why people ridicule Miles asking for more passes in these "practice" games, but would then be the first to bitch if Mett went down with an injury and we were up by 30. It is ridiculous.
