That's not necc true at all. In fact, I did see five down linemen to start the game while I never once saw three down linemen with two outside LB types and two middle LB types in any one set.

The 5-2 is what it is. If they want to play a 5-2 with the two outside DEs standing, then they need to call it a 3-4 like everyone else does.

Which part is not necessarily true? Lost me there.

You might be getting lost in DL vs LB vs DB. or how many personal is "on the line."

A 5-2 does not always mean 5 DL, and only 5 DL types, have to be within 5 yards of the ball on the line of scrimmage. We often see LSU using 1 DT and 3 DE with 2 LBs and 5 DBs.

Is this a 4-2-5 just on numbers? Maybe or maybe not. It could be a 4-3 or 3-4 with speedier personal. And so on.

4-3, 3-4, 5-2 and all the other defenses and subsets are type of defensive schemes. Where each player attacks a gap, holds a gap, responsibility to read the play and so on is the reality and dictates more what type of defense a team plays vs. how many DL and LBs is on the field at any one time.

Is today's 5-2 very close to a 3-4? Yes. Small differences, usually based on personal. This link supplements the one I posted earlier.

Put Beckwith at one of the end spots and he could also drop back and cover as a LB if necessary

Actually we went with a 5-1 with allen playing inside wit ego and freak. Kwon was the lone backer against aub and state. Dont recall seeing it against uf. Saw more 3-3-5. Sending eugene on the blitzes.

I didnt rewatch the uga game cus i dont like rewatching us lose. Seems like weve been experimenting a lot. But the guys came to play. UF is talented, but their style is to beat you on defense and control the clock. Hopefully they will continue to get better so we can slow down some of the os weve struggled against. Like Ole Miss.

I think its the 4-3 under that yall are talking about. not true 5-2.

Plus the 4-2-5 is built for spread offenses. Not sure you want to take a defense that schematically only puts 6 in the box into the SEC. Unless you think you can win giving up 300 rushing yards a game

it was there several times with Rasco and Hunter on the ends, Freak, Ego and Lacouture inside, all with their hand in the dirt. Kwon and Lamin at the LB. I was waiting for my old high school coach to yell out "double tom"

I would imagine the difference between the two would be the assignments of the two outside guys. In a 3-4 the outside guys Play off the LOS and is considered a linebacker, while in a 5-2 the end plays at the LOS and is part of DL although he plays standing up

The 5. 2 defense typically had 3 down lineman and two upright ends I think this could help if your ends aren't that athletic because their objective is to contain and turn anything back inside

correct, and one of those ends would prob be beckwith, with Jordan allen or Danielle on the inside of him...
