Definitely a great individual that was gone too soon.

Didn't he coach middle school hoops at St. George, or am I mistaken? I was there in the 80's and I vaguely remember something about him coaching or being associated with the school in some way....

Yes, he coached at St George. One of his players was Tim Lanier a NC baseball Teammember.

Cool. I was a few years too young for the school team when he was there, but I do remember seeing him in a team photo in the lobby of the old gym

I had a class with Don in one of those big rooms in the basement of Lockett. He didn't come to class as often as the teacher would have liked and he usually sat in the back and read Sports Illustrated when he did show up. One day the class was about to start and Don came in the room and headed for the back row. The professor announced "Ahhhh! Mr. Redden has decided to grace us with his presence today." This was in front of over a hundred other students. Don just quietly took his seat in the back and read his SI. He seemed like a nice guy.

Don had cardiomyopathy- a heart defect on a microscopic level. Pete was missing his left main coronary artery- a plumbing defect from birth.

That's the way I will always remember Don. Happy as hell and just overjoyed. I love that cover and 86 is probably one of my fav memories

I grew up down the street from them but was a bit younger than Don. Like a previous poster said, the Reddens were a very nice/good family. Anyone know where Don's younger brother Bart ended up? He was closer to my age.
