No, only one thing matters, '58, '03 and '07 ! Case closed.

Met, sports that are decided on points don't fall in ur category. A soccer team can win their league and still lose the last game.
before the bcs a team like bama can lose their last game and still be mnc.

If you look at the accomplishments of the team, and the season overall, you really can't argue that any other LSU team in history accomplished more.
Now, they didn't finish. THey didn't win the title, that is what everyone is going to think about and probably remember. However outside of the 2011 Alabama team you stack any team ANY 2011 team in the country, 119 teams against this 2011 team, they win.
Teams like this don't come around often and thats why it's such a shame we didn't finish. However, if next year manages to be even better well....consider me excited.

IMHO....This alone negated it for me.
So if these stats were on Nov 5th and not Jan 9th and we had the Nov 5th game on January 9th, you wouldn't change your mind?
Many of my fellow LSU fans were boasting early in the season that the National Championship was going to be on November 5th. Not only did I believe them but I think it's safe to say the networks and the American public believed them as well, judging by the ratings on Nov 5th when compared to the ratings on January 9th.
I'm not saying LSU should be given a crystal ball, but when you look at the body of work of the season, this is the best team LSU has ever had.

Looking at it objectively we were victims of circumstance. Really all college football teams are with the BCS system. November 5th was supposed to be it. We win, thats it, inside track to the game
That happened. It's what happened around us that changed everything and aint it just a bitch that really the only team, ONLY team in the country that was not only built to stop and beat LSU, a team that had already lost to LSU, got put into the big game...because of circumstance.
It sucks. Losing sucks. You have to look at it with some perspective though.

Who we played....
Interesting question. The non-conference schedule this season was much tougher than '03. But the SEC schedule was,in 2011, frankly, rather weak. Kentucky, Ole Miss, Auburn, Florida, Vandy ... especially Kentucky and Ole Miss, were sub-par. Miss. State was average, Arkansas was better than '03. While one might argue that Georgia was better this year, I believe the team Skler Green bailed us out against in Tiger Stadium was better than this year's Bulldog squad. The gumps were obviously much better this year than back then. All said, based upon the overall quality of this year's non-conference schedule, and the degree to which LSU dominated it, I think you have to say 2011's team is the best in school history.

Can't be summarized better than this.

But....the argument made that the last game is the one that makes the season is a good one. To truly decide, you'd have to evaluate position player by position player from both teams, and compare; look at relative strength of non-conference schedule; consider the relative strength of the conference teams we played in each season. Similar question to the one concerning who might be the best QB in the hx of the NFL. Can it be Marino, who never started a Super Bowl (the starting QB for the Dolphins his rookie season was David Woodley)? Unitas, who never won a Super Bowl? Montana, who won a slew of SBs but did not have any special talent as a QB, e.g., arm strength, mobility, etc. AND IN DETERMINING THE BEST LSU TEAM EVER, DO YOU CONSIDER NOT ONLY WINS, LOSSES, THE TALENT PLAYERS, BUT THE COACH'S ABILITY AS WELL?

Head to head, 2003 beats 2011. Do u really think 2011 would do anything against 2003 defense?
I guess 2011 has a better resume although the SEC didnt seem overly strong.
And no, a team doesnt have to win its last game to be "best". Its dumb to think the 18-1 2007 Patriots arent one of the best of all time.

Do you think the 2003 Offense could do anything against the 2011 Defense? Maybe.
The special teams of the 2011 team is also vastly superior to the special teams of the 2003 team. IMO

I agree.

The running backs of the 2011 team are considerably better when you consider the depth. However, what the 2003 team lacked in the ground game department is more than compensated for in the QB/WR department. This was not the case with the 2011 team...mainly the QB area.

Would do enough to win. Not a lot but enough.

On paper 2006 is probably the most impresive lsu team but even then the offense underperformed.

uhhh, not really. you're talking
Ware
Ford
Hilliard
Blue
vs.
Vincent
Addai
Alley
Shy
that's pretty much a wash. if you throw Magee in, I'll raise you a Barrington Edwards

Okay, it's still too early to really compare the RBs but my money would be on the 2011 stable in the long run. Good point ATL nevertheless.

probably, but I'm only comparing where guys were in those respective seasons. so I'm not making Addai out to be the 05 1st rounder, nor JV or Alley in their later less-productive and/ or injury-prone yrs (or even Alley's 04 unstoppable-ness). '11 put up better numbers than 03 in those yrs, but not by much, and not with a much deeper group.

maybe, but on the field and scoreboard they make the top 5.
