2007 BCS championship game thoughts:

I was shitfaced in a bar in Nola for this game and have never had a lot of memories of how this game played out. So I decided to watch it today while waiting on the LSU/Vandy game. TLDR, I know.
Watched on YouTube via Apple TV.
I forgot how much of a bad start the LSU defense got out to. 65 yard Td run by Wells on third down. Long pass play to their RB after the opening series 3 and out by LSU with the snap over Flynn’s Head.
Patrick Fisher (LSU punter) was a beast in this game.
OSU defense was stacked with pros. Cameron Heyward, Vernon Gholston, Laurenitus, Malcolm Jenkins and Curt Coleman as starters.
Les was still Les in 07. Lots of predictable packages and running plays. Cringed when I saw the toss dive. LSU’s second offensive drive was a classic Les, grind them down and wear them out, drive. Ended in a FG but set the physical tone for the game imo.
Early Doucet was really fun to watch.
LSU: 3 OSU: 10 2:21 left in 1st Quarter
OSU’s third drive: It was easy to see that Ricky Jean Francois would be a better pro than Dorsey if we would have just paid attention. Dorsey made some flashy plays but RJF was more consistently disruptive on every play. They made a hell of a team together. Great defensive showing by the LSU D on this drive.
Chad Jones fumbled the punt, recovered by Harry Coleman.
LSU’s third drive: Looks like Crowton took over and told Miles GFY. Shotgun, spread 4wrs slinging it on first and second down. Perriloux debuts for one play and runs a sick option. LSU td on the classic Flynn play action release to Dickson with the hurry up before OSU was set. Beautiful play.
LSU: 10 OSU: 10 13 min left in 2nd Quarter
OSU has a great drive and Robiskie drops the TD pass. Then RJF blocks the FG! He was a beast in this game.
LSU’s 4th drive: Physicality starts setting in clearly. LSU getting chunk plays and OL getting 5yds of push. OSU on roller skates. TE release over the middle was a huge weapon. When did Les start hating TE passing plays?
LSU running spread with Trindon in backfield (can’t believe Les allowed this offense)
LSU TD on a beautiful back of the end zone fade pass to Lafell.
Interesting note touched on by commentators: LSU huddled very close to the ball in the red zone in this game. So they could potentially hustle to formation and snap the ball when OSU was still getting set (see first TD by Dickson.) This thread is not to bash Miles but why after this year did he become so vanilla in everything he did???
Toonces everywhere.
17 unanswered points by the good guys.
LSU: 17 OSU: 10 7:25 to go in 2nd Q
LSU defensive push now taking over. Moffitt was in his prime in these days. LSU was strong and conditioned. Beautiful pick by Chevis.
LSU takes over with a short field and Flynn slinging it. Another amazing play to Dickson. Flynn rolls right, then throws left to the released TE. Once again, when did Les start hating TEs? TD Hester on third and G on pure Hester effort.
OSU allowed only 2 rushing TDS this whole season before this TD. Wow.
Neck playing and arms waving all over the dome.
Sack fumble by Tyson Jackson recovered by OSU. Defensive front was nasty. Marlon Favorite was an alternate. Punt OSU.
Bo Pelini is an OSU alum and played Safety for them and Robiskie’s dad is an LSU tiger alum. Just featured on the broadcast.
LSU runs the clock out on the half with the score 24-10 with 24 unanswered points by LSU.
Fight song plays in the dome with 1:50 to go after last LSU TD and chills ensue. Coach Henson gets the ice bath. TE coach and recruiting coordinator.
OSU scores making it 38-24
Charles Scott receives onside kick.
Les and Pelini hug on sidelines
LSU kneels it out. Game over
Thought watching this game: Les was so serious and intense back then. When did he become so goofy??
Pelini gets ice bath.
Les never got an ice bath
Edit: Les did get an ice bath but it was after the game and the handshake. Didn’t show on the video I watched but pictures of said ice bath are posted in the thread.

Just enjoying my day off with some wine and reminiscing on the days when LSU had a championship football program. Long distant memory from today’s shite show.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Ohio State fans don’t dwell on the 06-07 BCS CG losses when discussing 2002 and don’t belittle the coach that won the 2002 title because he got destroyed in 2 others CG

I enjoyed watching LSU hang 31 straight on their asses. Anyone who thinks that wasn't an arse-kicking is out of his mind.

Agree. If there’s one thing to take away from watching this game today is Les was a totally different coach in 07 than he was in 2011. There were drives that looked similar at times but overall he was much more focused, intense, detail oriented, unpredictable and open minded.

I was traveling and watched it at a sports bar in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
There was only one other Tiger fan in the whole place. Everyone else was a fan of the bad guys. They gave us a ton of grief at first, and then the place went silent. We took over from there.

Well according to some on this board LSU is overachieving by simply finishing in the top 25.

2005 and 2006 teams were arguably the best teams of the 2000's and Jimbo wasted them.

2005 was an anomaly. Best team at LSU maybe ever and then the Miami Dolphins and Katrina happened.

During the Oregon game Bret Musburger was detailing Gary Crowton's move to Maryland to be the OC. He said Les could have opened the offense much more with the skill players available. Herbie stopped him and said "Yeah but let's not argue because Les' style is winning"

It’s hard to say, maybe 2008 scared him. But consider the opponent. I know many will think this is making “excuses” but that Alabama D was insanely good, as good as our D was that year they were the first in 25 years to lead in all 4 major categories (points, total, rush pass yds) it was like going against the 2000 Raven. Yeah the game plan was too conservative and predictable but remember the 2009 SEC CG? Bama beat Florida 32-13. Les deserves all the criticism he gets for his offense but Urban Meyer is a damn good offensive coach and he had a 3 year starter who is one of the greatest QBs (players) in SEC History in Tim Tebow. Can you imagine the vitriol if Miles had Tebow and the other weapons Florida had and only scored 13 points? Yeah getting shut out like that was embarrassing but people wouldn’t feel any better if we lost 21-17. Sometimes you just have to accept Saban is the GOAT it sucks he left us and came back at Bama but losing to him when he’s focused and gets another shot is almost inevitable (ask Meyer in 09 or Dabo this year).
