I was a senior in high school that year. I played against Spears (he wasn't that special in high school, he was bored I guess).
I was a pretty good player and had some offers, but couldn't get LSU to even answer my phone calls! LOL. I went to the office one day, and met with some coaches, but they were pretty well stacked up already. I couldn't understand at that time, why the hell wasn't LSU after me?! It didn't take long after I graduated, and saw who these other guys really were that I realized how much of a small fish I really was.
That class was unreal!

did you end up playing somewhere else?

went to McNeese. Fell in love..... quit for a chick. I know. I suck.
I had the opportunity to meet some cool people and some great coaches. My recruitment started late, and the crop was thick so there weren't a lot of big time offers until late. I was offered to go to JUCO and come back in a year or two.
Another thing that gets lost in that class is that Brandon Jacobs was also in it. He was a huge man even in high school!
We kept in touch quite a bit, until he committed to Auburn. I never spoke to him again.

I don't know what he was "ranked", but I remember there was a lot of buzz around him.
Carey was ranked high, but i dont think he made it here until 02. He had signed with TENN originally out of HS, then had some grade trouble i think, I dont think he played until 02 but i could be wrong

Michael Clayton WR, 6-5, 190, Baton Rouge,
what is so funny? that they list him as 6-5? he was b/w 6-3 and 6-4

Guy is just being an a$$. Clayton is probably just a shade under 6'4" (so call him 6'4") and, at least at LSU, he played taller.

i would take a clayton every year. still don't get why he didn't have a great pro career.

Not quite over yet, but, he's not going to be the NFL HOF player I predicted he would be. He had some injury problems, coaching changes at TB - just a number of things, both in and out of his control.

I think he would have been great in the saints offense
