I’m still trying to figure out sliding mitts. We would have been laughed off the field for wearing something so ghey.

But being those extra runners are worthless if that hitter doesn’t get to bat.

Your logic of extra at bats for your power/home run hitters should mean those batters are at the top, maximizing their at bats

2) best home run hitters not batting 4th, “cleanup”

that’s been a thing since the beginning of homeruns.
Babe Ruth batted 3rd in the lineup.

Best hitter doesn't always mean most power. And you still want a high avg guy at lead off. Sometimes that means your best hitter at leadoff. Or if your best hitter has som pop then you put your best OBP guy at leadoff, followed by your "best" hitter, then your HR hitter 3rd.

It really all depends on your players

Thanks for that information, but why did it take 100 years of baseball to figure this out, especially part about your cleanup guy getting extra at bats?

it didn’t.
been happening forever now.

Babe Ruth batted 3rd
Mickey Mantle batted 3rd
Ted Williams batted 3rd

Generally it’s seen as optimal to have your best power hitter batting 2-3, rather than 4, because of the extra ABs. Either way, the guys ahead of him in the order are going to have high OBP%.

If you move your best power hitter to 1, the downside of batting after the bottom of your order outweighs the upside of the extra ABs.
