You make the rest of the people in Lafayette look like idiots, please stop.

Truth be known, ULL screwed themselves by trying to exploit a loophole in a state law and in the process managed to change their name from a regional school to a community school when the legislature decided to allow ULM to tag along in the venture forcing both schools to ID themselves with the campus location... And I went there (scholly) so don't give me any LSU arrogance bullshite. USL was just fine, if it ain't broke don't fix it. That's what you get when you have a moron like Schexnayder for an AD pumping the school about the recruiting problems.

The loss was to ULL not UL

And Southern defeated Nicholls State, while Southeastern defeated South Alabama.

So, I guess that SELU victory over USA was the other great win for the state last night.

The funniest part about the whole ULL Cajun bravado bullshite is taking a look at their stands on a Saturday night in the fall.

There's a saying that comes to my mind when I think of them: "spent in thousands and chattered in millions..."

why does ULL feel superior to ULM? I dont see ULM referring to themselves as UL

I mean ULM did win the series right?

Yeah, it's a fun game to play and all, but check a degree from LSU. It says "Louisiana State University" in bold beneath which it says "and," then another line that says "Agricultural and Mechanical College." The only thing he is completely wrong about is the "at Baton Rouge," doesn't say that on there.

LSU is know as LSU because it has the national exposure to be known as those three letters. Nationwide UL is University of Louisville. ULL fans need to get over that already. Are they ashamed to be in Lafayette?

The original University of Louisiana is Tulane. I want to say that when they wanted to go the "ULx" route they had to ask Tulane for permission to do so.

I think it has more to do with their desire to be seen as the flagship school of the ULS.

I was making the point about the city being included.

I have heard ULL people talk about the whole LSUA&M thing when this conversation comes up but look at it.

Louisiana Sate University and Agricultral and Mechanical College = LSU

Texas A & M University = Texas A&M

So as far as I am concerned that even blows the A&M arguement out the window.

You are correct.

From Tulane website:

HIGHLIGHTS OF TULANE'S HISTORY
¦1834 The Medical College of Louisiana is founded in New Orleans by seven young doctors.
¦1847 The state legislature establishes the University of Louisiana.¦1847 The Medical College of Louisiana becomes the Medical Department of the University of Louisiana.
¦1847 The University of Louisiana adds a law department, the 12th such department in the United States.
¦1851 An academic department for men opens. Its first students are enrolled — 12 freshmen and two sophomores.
¦1861 The university closes its doors because of the Civil War. Classes resume in 1865.
¦1882 Paul Tulane donates extensive real estate in New Orleans for the support of education. A Board of Administrators of the Tulane Educational Fund is appointed and holds its first meeting. The board decides to support and incorporate with the University of Louisiana rather than create a separate institution.¦1884 The Louisiana Legislature passes a bill transferring the University of Louisiana at New Orleans to the control of the Administrators of the Tulane Educational Fund, thus creating the Tulane University of Louisiana, a private, nonsectarian university.

Damn I feel like a Google ninja today.

LSU website

Reading things at this link has been very enlightening. Seems all of ULL's rivalries have LSU ties.

ULM:
quote:

The Northeast Center established in Monroe. It is the first branch school of LSU.

Mcneese State:
quote:

Lake Charles Junior College opens under LSU direction (name changes in 1940 to John McNeese Junior College) with Dean Joe Farrar as head.

This explains all LSU the hate...officially. Ha ha.

The seminary reopened October 2, 1865, only to be burned October 15, 1869. On November 1, 1869, the institution resumed its exercises in Baton Rouge, where it has since remained. In 1870, the name of the institution was changed to Louisiana State University.

Not to rain on your parade, but from your own link:

1877
Reconstruction ends.
(June) Merger of LSU and Louisiana A&M College prompts the final title change to Louisiana State University and A&M College. LSU becomes a land-grant institution.
(October 5) Classes resume.
Title of superintendent changes to president.

Georgia Tech is The Georgia Institute of Technology, Virginia Tech is officially called Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. The point is that a number of institutions use shorter versions of their name, especially for athletics. Thus, LSU is recognized throughout the country. Most college sports fans across the country would recognize UL as Louisville and not the school in Lafayette. Of course most of them won't know who ULL is either.

I am pretty sure that both of my diplomas say "Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College." There isn't anything in there about being AT Baton Rouge because that LSU is THE LSU unlike the University of Louisiana AT Lafayette.

Did not read that far down although I will agree that my diploma says Louisiana State University and A&M College.

I would say the "and" allows for the A&M College to be dropped from the name (ie: Louisiana State University and Southern University) as opposed to Texas A&M University and Alabama A&M University who keep the A&M in their names.

Regardless of what LSU is or calls itself. That school in Lafayette is ULL.

So there can be only one UL? What about UT (Texas & Tennessee) or UM (Mississippi, Michigan, Marlyland, Montana, Missouri)??

Louisville actually uses U of L

WOW!!!!!!!!! ......... so i was wrong about the @BR part. So, i guess i can start calling your school LSU A&M. You take away the A&M. We take away the L.

There, everything is settled. :)
