Add one more old geezer to the attendance list. The end of that game was the loudest explosion of noise I have ever experienced at a sporting event. My girlfriend and I were screaming as loud as we could and could not hear each other for the noise.

I didn't see anyone leaving early, that game was too close from start to finish. That last long drive saw Cholly Mac go for it on fourth down twice and we got them both times.

The crowd was fantastic. The entire student section went beserk

Describes my experience at the game perfectly. I was a freshman. I had been to several games before enrolling in college, but that was my first Ole Miss game. What an experience. LSU played pretty poorly throughout the game until that drive. But what a drive!

Time for my annual "respect your opponent" post:

You do realize that your trashing of Ole Miss (the opponent) with your lame "Ole Piss" thread initiation is not appropriate. Or do you?

Thanks for the '72 radio link. You got a '57 LSU-Ole Miss radio link? Grew up in south Louisiana listening to LSU games on the radio. How about a '58 LSU-Ole Miss link? Or '59 LSU-Ole Miss link? Your reference to "young pups"? Please... Young pups, do not refer to Ole Miss as Ole Piss - that's counter-productive. Derogatory. Not necessary. You get my point....

Ole Miss has beaten the Tiger's arse the last two years. Houston Nutt may very well make it three years in a row - at Ole Miss (four years in a row counting his last year at Arkansas). This is the SEC. Chill Pill, what's wrong with you? No real sense of history? I'm old enough to have been there, seen that! No appreciation for the fact that any opponent in the SEC can beat any other opponent (forgive me, Vanderbilt) on any given weekend?

Puhleeeeeeze ------- Ole Miss is very capable of handing LSU their arse in a handbag if LSU does not play their game and instead looks forward to playing Arkansas in Little Rock. The LSU football organization will totally respect Ole Miss, but

the LSU "fans" (like the Post originator) may not. I just do not understand "lack of respect" posters. But I guess that's why they call this the Rant...

My mother (an Ole Miss/Archie Manning fan) was at that game, and was apparently so pissed off with the end that she was cursing like a Marine drill sergeant al the way out of the stadium.

This story was more or less confirmed a few years back when I called her and played the last few seconds of the radio broadcast I had on CD. She hung up on me and would not take my call when I called her back.

No fences dividing the stadium ramps in those days; lots of people started the game sitting in one part of the stadium (bad seats, like under the south end overhang) and would use binoculars to find "upgrade" seats, and walk around to them free n clear. (Until the real owners showed up)

Also used to walk on to the visitor's sidelines during the game and get opposing team cheerleader pix and autographs. Those '71 Notre Dame cheerleaders were babe-licious!
