Yes the team is the 1902 Co-champions of the South.
Fullback H.E. Landry is the key member of the team.
Also 1902 scrub team played it's first outside game, losing to Shreveport A.C.
Head coach: W.S. Boreland
Record in 1902: 6-1
Losing only to the strong Vanderbilt team 5-27
To do the id on the players will take a trip to BR and going through the Gumbo, but Landry should be very easy to Id.
This is a speical event book and likely printed durning the season, so likely the event I already posted.
Book is limited to faculty and key power brokers in BR, so a press run around 50 is the likely number, with 40 more likely.

Thanks for all the research Tigger!!!
So it is pointing more to 1902 than 1905.

AT I talked to the head of the Hill Library, they have 2 copies of the book.
Also in the catalog they list it 1905?, so the date on it is up in the air (as even they have no idea of the date printed).
I would think that if the book was printed in 1905 it would show the 1902 football team as Co-Champions of the South under the picture.
I will be down to BR in Dec 2011, please remind me and I can get the date on the book in about 4 hours work on the microfilm.

With the team in the photograph being the 1902 team, that is three clues I see that points toward 1902.
You talked to Barry Cowan? They gave me his number but never got hold of him. The book I saw they have has a handwritten date of July 17th (I think),1905. The penciled date did not look very old.
The librarian at Hill Memorial was not very useful. She tried to help but she didn't have a hit on FH Burnette, and he was a facility member. I would love to do research on the book but wouldn't know where to start. I looked in the 1902-1905 Gumbos, but they are in such poor condition, I was afraid I would damage them even more.
I wasnt expecting to do the research for me, but I was hoping she could point me in the right direction.
