Most weren't kicked off the team. Jones transferred his choice....Allen tranferred his choice...Singleton got homesick for GA...Snyder had a medical issue...McCoy transferred his choice...Ainsworth father died I think and left the team.

Speaking of OU, our boy Philip Loadholt is there...isn't he?

Once again, coaches say stuff like that if they are indeed great or maybe not so good and trying to build confidence. Guess which one it was this time?

Make that 7 for the OL for 2008. Matt Branch has officially been moved to the OL just as many recruiting people thought he would.

Nope, I believe he used up his elibility...he gone. As far as Jarvis Jones goes, he was starting for OU.....BUT. I heard during the Miami game, "Oklahoma really likes that left side of their line because they haven't done much on the right side." Guess which side Jones plays on...sadly for him....the right side.

What does this tell us about our OL? Anything?

that it would be a damn strong OL if the QB didnt drop 7 steps back out of shotgun.

That Jefferson would be doing fine if the OL could either purposely or accidentally block DL.

what makes me mad is that if you win the starting job in camp, then that is it & there is no way you can lose your job. No more competition for playing time. It is also possible that some players have been misevaluated. Josh D at LG is not working too well. He is a gifted athlete, but 6'6" 281 is thin & he just appears to not look/play strong. He is light on his feet & can move, but can't root an interior lineman out. He would seem to be more suited for RT. Barksdale is very strong (didn't he break the team squat record?) and seems to be better suited at LG next to CB and push some fools around. Maybe not now, but why can't the coaches see this earlier in camp. Really, I could see 68 doing better at RT than LG and 78 doing better at LG than RT. Response?

Agreed. Dworacyzck would probably be best suited for tackle due to his agility. He reminds me of Rodney Reed as a freshman at LSU. Reed was forced into action at tackle against UAB by Nick Saban because LSU's line play had been so poor up to that point. Reed was a little light at that time but got better over his career eventually becoming a very solid player by the time LSU won the NC in 2003.

Actually, Josh D's agility probably makes him best suited for left tackle. However, Ciron Black is a four year starter and we all know Miles is not going to move him. So, for this year, it would have made sense to move Barksdale inside and to put Josh D. at right tackle if he is actually one of the five best linemen we have.

As for the future, LSU's offensive line play should get better as the underclassmen gain more experience and strength.

My primary concern coming into this season was the offensive line due to losing all of the lineman signed in the 2006 class and it has proven to be a valid concern.

Not only does LSU have a class gap in the offensive line, but also at QB, due to Perrilloux, and at fullback, due to not signing any fullbacks until this year's class. The lack of experience in the interior of the o line and at fullback is killing LSU's ability to control the line of scrimmage. Right now, LSU misses Herman Johnson, Brett Helms and Quinn Johnson more than a fat kid misses cake.

The lack of dominance at the point of attack, coupled with inexperience at QB, is a recipe for a struggling offense.

Could the play calling be better to confuse defenses and give our young players help? No doubt about it. However, I am not ready to throw in the towel on this season and the future of LSU football. There is plenty of talent there, but it will take a little time for these players to mature mentally and physically for LSU to once again become a dominant team.

10-2 or 9-3 will not be a bad year and, truthfully, is probably the final record most LSU fans thought would occur prior to the season.

Time the shrug off the Florida game and get ready for Auburn. There is still a lot of football left to play and a lot to play for.

100% SPOT ON. poor O-line due to attrition and young QB. this is our problem. now we need to adjust for it.

The fans who supported Miles decision to kick players off the team should be patient while the younger talent matures.

Agree with the second statement but the breakdown on the 7 OL who could have been on this years team but are not is- two kicked off- Thomas and Jones; 3 left for playing time=Allen, Singleton, McCoy; 1 due to career ending injury=Snyder; 1 for personal(family) reasons=Ainsworth
Allen, Singleton, Thomas and Jones are all starters at their respective schools.

Damn attrition...

2009
Carneal Ainsworth

2008
None (yet)

2007
Jarvis Jones
Earnest McCoy
(two big losses IMO)

2006
Matt Allen
Phil Loadholdt
Steven Singleton
Zhamal Thomas
Mark Snyder
(rough year for OL Recruits)

The 06 & 07 Classes' Attrition is killing us right now. Whatever it is, grades/conduct/character, Miles needs to work on this.

Man this thread needs a sticky. Posters need to be forced to read through it before posting.

Could it be that some sense of sanity is returning to the Rant?
