A glorious destruction of the Gators until Mauck got hurt late. The 2002 season would have unfolded very differently without that injury. We were evolving into a potent team.

I was 10, one of my favorite childhood LSU football memories watching us dominate Florida and Grossman after what they had done to us the few years before. Corey Webster had three picks and if I remember correct Marcus Spears also had an interception.

Rant myth baw.

I was at the Swamp that night. It was glorious. But UF was just not a good team. Go back and look at the teams we beat the first part of that season. Just awful. The only decent team we played was VT and they beat us relatively easily (DD should have had that TD return though )

Then got absolutely pantsed by Auburn and Alabama. Mauck wouldn’t have saved that team. Maybe we beat Arkansas but maybe we lose to Kentucky, who just plain shredded our D with the late great SS Lorenzon.

Damien James leaving the team was probably just as big if not bigger than Mauck going down. Our D was just not very good.

Made the 03 turnaround that much more incredible.
