After the baby boomers got control of the university administration they have spent the last 30 years aggressively eliminating every single vestige of that history and identity; it’s like a religious purity thing. Very sad.

i think the flags were banned in the 90s.
1936: Colonel Reb image created.
1979: Officially adopted as sideline mascot.
June 2003: Eliminated as the official on-field/sideline game mascot by the administration.
2009–2010: Banned from stadium entry and official merchandise sales dropped;
Replaced by the Rebel Black Bear via student vote in 2010 (later replaced by Tony the Landshark in 2018).

Yeah, they pretty much lost their identity doing away with mascot and flags. Caved in to wokeness.
