Out of curiosity, why wasn't the clock reset to 6 seconds before the last play?

After the Ole Miss penalty?

Illegal shifts are never blown dead.

Because you never get the time back from a play that had a penalty. Regardless of who it is on.

So illegal shift is not a dead ball foul?

That would logically be the answer if so. I assumed it would be treated as a pre-snap penalty.

You can't have an illegal shift until you have a snap. They have time to re set pre-snap.

quote:Nope. Play runs and then the defense has the option to take the penalty or result of the play. Illegal shift isn’t blown dead

It wasn’t a dead ball foul.
A false start kills a play. Alignment issues do not. They let the play go on and a defensive penalty can negate the offensive penalty. The time used still counts but the down doesn’t…unless the defense declines the penalty.
