Nope, they trade speed for protection all parts of equipment.

It’s been that way for 10 years. No pads at all, the “pants” are a foot above their knees. They think it looks cool.

I think pants come with very tiny built in pads. They pull them up but technically they are there.

From the product description. Pads are build in.

quote:

The Nike Vapor F.U.S.E. Football Pants remove extra layers that create a super-streamlined feel. Lightweight, stretchy fabric with perforations in key areas lets you move freely while helping keep you cool when the game heats up. A drawcord at the waist lets you dial in your perfect fit to maximize your comfort. Zoned breathability strategically positions mesh and perforations to help ventilate high-heat areas. Integrated foam padding at the knees provides impact absorption. Customize the colors and logo to outfit your team in a one-of-a-kind look. Hip width: 18.5", Inseam length: 15" (size large). Tall inseam length: +2.25" (all sizes).

I also see a lot more dudes wearing 3/4 length or full length compression leggings to improve leg circulation.

I have to wear some at times for venous insufficiency.

I had some venous ablations done in 2018, but they came back.

Definitely. I played on the o-line and we all wore padded gloves for "punching" the opponent. The game was much more violent then.

my kids play soccer so my vernacular has shifted. We were told you use your facemask and helmet as a weapon and drive through someone. Literally told “go hurt somebody”
