Not worried about defense just yet he will be serviceable and I think we will get a nice rim protector for him to split minutes with. You won’t get the 35min a game from him like we got with KJ.

CMM has done pretty well in the portal and recruiting the current roster. Baker fills a big hole offensively. Rebounding and another outside shooting guards are still needs. If we get Girard, he and Cook will fill the shooting need. Stewart or Amaree will finish that. The mystery is who will finish filling the rebounding need. Maybe CMM thinks Reed will make a leap in rebounding, which would be great since he has a lot of potential to be a good offensive player too. Nevertheless, I hope it’s true that Phillips will return, because he already proved that he is a good rebounder. If we don’t fix that, teams will get too many extra shots and we won’t get many.

I see where he declared for the draft
Is LSU the fall back option?

It's not uncommon to see guys both declare for the draft and enter the portal simultaneously. It's not like football. You can declare, retain an agent, go through the process, get feedback, and still return to college.

He's probably just doing what many guys will do...see what his draft stock looks like. He's not a projected 1st round pick by anyone. He's probably not even a projected 2nd round pick. Still, it doesn't hurt a guy to see where he stands and what he might need to work on. I expect he will play at LSU next season.
