News flash! You can win championships at LSU! Screw Bama! Tiger Stadium next Year!
No one said that you couldn't win championships at LSU. But while that may the ultimate goal for you and me as fans, it's not the ultimate goal for many big time recruits. Their ultimate goal is getting to the NFL and getting paid. College football is just the stepping stone for that. Hell when Butch Davis was at UNC, he was able to have great recruiting classes come to a school with no college football tradition (I know that their were "other reasons" they went to UNC as well). Those guys went to UNC because they saw all of the Miami guys that Davis sent to the NFL.

Alabama is a beloved program across the nation and they are better than LSU right now. Saban has won 2 national championships of late which is where the wins count the most. There are many other reasons like playing time that come into play.
For instance, if you were a stud running back would you pick LSU or Bama? I'm picking Bama where I can be showcased and not thrown into a rotation or stable of backs.
That being said, those said recruits would be better off to just eliminate LSU early on instead of behaving like LC who now reaps the backlash. If you are from Louisiana and going out of state, then don't put the LSU hat out there period.

I think if you are a D-back it makes more sense to go to Ala. b/c Saban has won 3 national championships with 2 different teams and he's a defensive minded coach. He's the best in the business. Got to give him that. He certainly showed Miles that he is the very best in the BCS championship game. Miles looked like a clown compared to Saban - this time. Hopefully we can enjoy some redemption in Tiger stadium this year and change the perception of LSU's coaches.

Saban. I din't see them leave for Gumpville while Shula was there.
It really doesn't make sense to me either.

(1) Depth chart (e.g. Collins has a shot at playing next year at Bama with the turnover in their secondary)...LSU is stacked back there.
(2) Beleive it or not some people actually don't like LSU or like to be contraian
(3) Some people actually like to idea of going "away" for school. It's the same reason kids from Florida come to LSU sometimes.
(4) Personal relationships.
LSU gets 8 or 9 out of every top 10 prospects in Louisiana. College coaches in other states would kill for that kind of production. State teams lose top players all the time (i.e. Alabama lost several top state players to Fla St. this year).

Well, I would think our top players would look at everyone, including LSU. For far too long, many fans and maybe LSU itself think that just because your're from LA and LSU is the only football school that matters, then it's a lock and there's no point in working too hard to get the player.
Technology, reliable cars, nice hotels and interstate highways have made it very easy to get from Point A to Point B very easily now. 25 years ago, it was more difficult. Twitter, Texting and cellphones have allowed recruits to communicate wherever the live and to allow recruits to see idiotic posts made on websites like this.
in the old days, most recruits were limited in what information they got, now they can get EVERYTHING. There was one channel - ABC - showing football, now you can watch any football game you want, so parents can by a 60in TV hunker down and watch their kid on TV better than in the stadium.
Big schools are national brands now. Bama, USC, the U, Michigan, yes even LSU. If at age 4 you see Bama all the time on TV, your mommie can order you a Bama sweatshirt on the Internet in seconds. At that point, the home state discount ceases to exist.
Everyone else has gone over the on the field reasons for kids choosing Bama pretty well. The biggest problem is LSU fans looking with rose colored glasses and blindly believing that every kid is drooling to go to LSU. They believe that all we need to do is to "lock down the state" and everything will be OK.
If you want our top recruits to go to LSU, stop worrying about Bama and start selling LSU, not just to local kids but to national recruits as well. And sell hard.

Genuine respect for Saban. He is probably the only coach in America right now who can consistently take a blue chip out of Louisiana. He can also use LSU's current success to his advantage by saying he built our program. A lot of people(Devall) remember this and respect him greatly. I guess it doesn't help media treats him like a god and he puts at least three 1st round picks in the NFL every year. I think this year they have five 1st round picks projected...ridiculous. Guy can get the most out of his players better than anyone. That is probably why a lot of Bama players aren't that successful in the NFL because they hit their ceiling quick there.

Unfair treatment by Miles...and more easy nookie from the Tiders.

it's still ridiculous that we lost the top rated player in our own state...again. (Collins, McKnight, Reed).
Reed and McKnight were not the top recruits in LA. Mathieu, Eric Reed, Tharold Simon, and Brad Wing were all better than Reed just to name four. Chad Jones was better than McKnight. These are facts, not just what a recruiting service said. I bet we got guys this year who are better than LC. Let's revisit this in two years.

Earlier in this post someone said that to leave to go to an out-of-state school doesn't mean you hate your home state and that some kids just want to experience something else new. This is true. California loses many of it's top recruits to out-of-state schools every year. Two years ago we had an OG from our local HS that chose Virginia over Cal, UCLA, San Diego State and both Arizona schools. His reason was that he wanted to experience living on the East Coast.
I do agree that Saban does seem to have that pipeline to the NFL for his players. Although it may be more perception that reality....Check NFL rosters. LSU represents as well as bama.

This wouldn't surprise me either. Bama has some out of control boosters.
LSU doesn't have that this year. Especially since we're on probation, boosters gotta be more careful. This is also my belief one reason our class isn't star studded. Bama might be taking advantage of this.
Not saying they're paying anyone off...but it is a possibility. If you're elite, you gotta cheat in recruiting somehow.

Incredibly ignorant post.
There are many enjoyable parts to UA and Alabama as a whole. Oh, and, Gulf Shores is as closer to BR than Tuscaloosa..
