I'm not that impressed with Liggins but Randall is likely headed for a position change so a QB is needed in this class. The options are limited at this point.

Nobody likes espn but they have him rated #121 in there 150 I think & the video I jus watched he is as big like JR fast like JJ & has a below average arm he is a washed up RP basicly but has loads of potential especialy if he loses weight like 20lbs

I agree, QB isn't a "must-get" with 3 guys that aren't RSing and eligible to play. However, maybe the staff is underwhelmed with one of Randall or Rivers and they feel they need another QB for down the road.

I'm all for taking 1 QB in every class b/c of how important that position is. And if you have a couple of highly touted QBs on the roster, you can take a chance on a "diamond in the rough" type player that might take some time to develop.

how does a 3-star, at a position where we are deep, stop the bleeding.

2 RS freshman plus a JUCO transfer JR who has never attempted a pass against a FBS defense is some strange definition of "deep" with which I have thus far been unfamiliar.

4 QBs is MINIMUM. Or else you get what we had the past 4 years - a 2-headed QB Frankenstein that we had to win despite, rather than behind.

Liggins is an outstanding large athlete. Even if he doesn't work out at QB, he can play the D Peterson hybrid WR/TE. He's definitely not a "can't miss" prospect, but, for that matter neither are Randall and Rivers.

We have three healthy, scholarship QB's.

2 of which are freshmen. . .

That's position depth. Is it talent depth? Who knows?

3 QBs is not "deep". When you don't know if any of them can play against FBS, the problem is only compounded. If you knew 2 of them could play, maybe it's "adequate", but definitely not deep.

So your answer is to recruit 4 QBs every 4 years and hope that 1 develops? A QB should be taken in every class - you will lose some to attrition - transfer, injury, off-the-field issues, etc. - so if you do not recruit a QB every year, you get what we had the past 4 years - 2 half-QBs, hoping to make a whole out of them. Add that to Miles' propensity of having a primary pro-style AND a dual-threat (and when they were good the system was great - imagine Flynn/Perrilloux with the 2011 defense and special teams), we need 4 or 5 QBs on campus at all times to toss out the word "deep" to describe the position.

My point is - take a QB this year AND next year (and the following year, etc.)

My answer is to not just get a filler for a scholarship.

It just ends up causing the Patrick Miller's of the world to transfer.

You obviously know nothing about the kid then.
Kind of the point of the thread - a question.

Your post did help BTW.

No - that lies at the feet of Les Miles and Gunner Kiel - there was a scholarship for Miller, there is a scholarship for Miller, but it's all moot because he early enrolled at Auburn because Kiel was going to early enroll at LSU (but, apparently, isn't now based on prevailing reports).

Where are you hearing this? I've assumed all along he runs the option and change-up behind Mett next year.

His videos are meh. . .for QB highlight video's.

He grades out decent, but nothing special.

What am I missing here, that makes this kid a must get?

how is that different from Rivers?

We won't see a 2QB system unless both QBs struggle. Miles prefers 1 QB.

Wouldn't bother me if we took him, but I'd rather use it on a big WR project.

I agree; he is nothing special.

But the coaches seem to want a QB in this class (I don't think we need one) and Liggins is the best we can do at this point.

He is fatter than Davey was and, although Liggins has a strong arm, his arm is not as strong either.

Davey had an absolute cannon.

We already have 4 QB's without counting Shep. No need to take Liggins. Kiel was an exception because he was so good.

I'd like to see LSU sign a big name QB either this year or next

You don't want to have huge gaps
