We're starting to see it this year. Look at the SEC. It may end up USC Cocks in the playoffs along with TX, UGA, ???.

Nick retired because now with NIL, he didn't have the upper hand any more. Bama had been paying recruits with cars and lots of money hidden through a few corrupt church pastors, etc in Alabama. He's a good coach, but he'll never be the GOAT in my mind. I hope the Bama mountain crumbles into a dust heap lol.

It's always been a pay-for-play scenario in CFB, just not to this level. Look back at SMU almost 40 years ago. A nobody nothing school making inroads into the elites of CFB. Of course, the NCAA had to derail that asap. The blue bloods always stayed near the top 10 or 15 as they had the best hidden $$ boiling in the pot. Anyway, welcome to the new order of CFB. I hope to remain loyal and still enjoy my Saturday (hopefully night) games and

It’s needs to be regulated ASAP. Most schools do not have the pockets for boosters to keep shelling out millions for 17 year olds forever. Including most schools in the SEC.

I hate it when Little Nicky is right, but he nailed it on the head when he was talking a couple weeks back on gameday. Mentioned that very few if any teams had any depth due to kids not wanting to wait-their-turn. If they aren't getting good PT, they move on via the portal.

We'll see SEC champs with 2-3 losses especially with a 9-game schedule. You'll still see the bottom-dwellers (MS State, Vandy?, afraid to predict) only winning a game or two, but there'll be 5-6 teams vying for the top spots.

What do you think will be more important:

Paying top dollar for more top players

Or

Paying top dollar for top coaches

(Assuming you can't have both like Saban with Bama)

Good question. Probably a mixture, but possibly lean towards the top players in traditional recruiting or portal.

Right now LSU is in the bottom half of the SEC. Not the best ROI by any stretch of the imagination.

Where as the "Blue Bloods" ruled in the past, now you will have the "Open Wallet" schools that will ascend and become the new standard.

Some of the old "Blue Bloods" will probably be in this new category, but it will usher in a whole new group that is willing to spend their way to the top.

I mean it does seem like parity is increasing in CFB this year especially with the new rules for NIL. Some of the schools that we used to think were inferior to migrating schools, are turning the tables and the feeling is like the old order is changing. Nick Saban resigning makes sense in that context he has formed an excellent team, but the game has evolved. They’re no longer quietly operating under a pay-for-play model ; it’s been like that for some time now. Of course, it should be for the best that this new era brings more intensity to the game and anything can happen.

Whatever schools have the most money among alumni will rise to the top and win all the chips.

Elon Musk is starting a college in Austin as we type. If they get a football team, bye bye college football competition.

No, not at all. If it were like the NFL, the 5 star recruits would have to sign with the last ranked teams in the league the next year or not play.

The portal is the number 1 issue in all this. Go back to the old rules and if not even tougher ones. The money will work itself out in the end and always has.

Even seeing folks who say the SEC is down, but Lane argues otherwise, and I agree. To place a Big12 or ACC team with one loss ahead of some of the 2-3 loss SEC teams is total BS.
