I mean we got Van Buren who's only a sophomore to go with Hurley

Looks like this guy may be who we are looking for now:
quote:

BRYSON BEAVER
5.6 RATING
6'3"|195 LBS|QB
VISTA MURRIETA
MURRIETA , CA
CLASS OF 2026
UNDECIDED
The high three-star quarterback from Murrieta (Calif.) Vista Murrieta loved his weekend visit to Oregon and could easily end up with the Ducks but he’s still being really patient with things and not rushing his decision yet.

That’s because LSU and Colorado have offered in recent days and now Auburn is poking around - could that be a little sign that four-star QB Landon Duckworth is leaning more to South Carolina?

Looks like he had a big showing at Élite 11, and will getva big recruiting boost.

Adam Gorney had him at #6 at Elite 11:

VISTA MURRIETA
MURRIETA , CA
CLASS OF 2026
UNDECIDED
Beaver was one of the biggest surprises of the Elite 11. The Murrieta (Calif.) Vista Murrieta three-star definitely outplayed his ranking and came in with a ton of confidence. He was another one who zipped the ball and played to win instead of trying to game the system for points.

Other than Henderson’s dime down the right side of the field, Beaver had the best throw of the night on the same route. He’s at Oregon this weekend and the Ducks look strong but his recruitment has been wild in recent weeks.

From TygaStyle:

Apparently QB Bryson Beaver is on campus right now. He is about to fly up the rankings after his elite 11 performance. He was a top 3 performer from all accounts. Buzz around him is that he will be a top 100 recruit when all is said and done.

Oregon offered him not that long ago, but they are hard after Lyons right now. So LSU might have a legit shot here.

Rios & Beaver are both top 10 QBs, just seems like Beaver is on a recent tear. Have you seen either play?

Saw a lot of Rios. He’s from the same school as Aidan Chiles. And the same area as Nico and Madden Iamalieava

We "balked" at going into a bidding war with the #2 wealthist man IN THE WORLD! You got 12 mill?

Are you slow or something?

LSU does. Particularly over 4 years as Underwoods deal is. That averages 3 a year. Standard elite qb money. We may not have won the bidding war in the end but we didn't even try. Our offer, 1.5 per year. We are paying Nuss that.

So no, not slow. Honest.

quote:

He's elite, but I'd hold off the generational stuff. Also, he's played essentially one year of high achool ball. I wouldn’t feel good blowing that kind of money on a kid like that

I don't even think he's elite. The generational stuff aren't my words. They are the words of the guys that decide such things. I wouldn't have blown the money either. Point is 2 mil. We have it and chose not to spend. Whether I agree with the decision or not doesn't change that fact.

Again not slow, just honest.

quote:

We don't have to get a 4 mill QB. Who in the hell was JD5 and Joe Burrow before they got to LSU? Who the hell was Mettenberger? Many of you are going to be surprised when you see what we have in Van Buren in 2026. LSU doesn't do the one year assassins at QB

JD 5 would've cost millions in this era. He was a year ahead of the craziness. Burrow would've been cheaper but he was also before so what does he have to do with the current landscape? Mettenberger was a juco kid that left UGA and looked for another home. He wouldn't have been there in this era and again not applicable to this discussion. As for Van Buren, we'll see. I still need to see Nuss be elite before I declare a lesser talent there.

quote:

This is what you wanted to say all along. Some of you are beyond annoying.

Check my history. Been off the Kelly train for a couple of years. He's tied to Sloan now. Sloan fails so does Kelly. Kelly fails it's because Sloan failed in part.
This is his year. No more excuses now. Returning starter at qb, projected high draft pick, millions spent in the portal to fill our holes and a huge set of expectations from a fan base expecting nothing less than the playoffs. Let's see how it plays out. I'll gladly eat my crow if he's successful. Will you admit he isn't the guy or continue making excuses if he fails?

Nice chat.

Notre Dame has done this the past 3 years while waiting on their near 5 star rated QB to develop last year.

FWIW ND has gone with a one-year portal rental QB is three of the last four seasons. Jack Coan (Wisconsin) in '21, Sam Hartman (Wake Forest) in '23 and Riley Leonard (Duke) in '24.

In '22 they started Tyler Buchner and then when he got injured in the fourth quarter of the second game of the year, they had to start Drew Pyne for the rest of the regular season. Alabama and Missouri fans will understand how well that didn't go.

This year should see the winner of the competition between RS SO, Kenny Minchey and RS FR, CJ Carr. The latter is the favourite. That would hopefully give two full seasons of a home-grown QB. After that, we'll see.

Thx fanva. While a lot of us don't throw you accolades, I usually do. Your insights are always well-thought.
