What's the word on Zack Lee?

How are our chances of him enrolling?

He just texted me and said he went to Subway for lunch. I'll try to get details on his dinner.
Seriously: He's a top 3 round talent in baseball. A couple teams have backed off him late this month because of his unwillningness to talk. Again, it only takes one team to like him enough in a risk of drafting him, but he wants ALOT of money. When I say ALOT I'm talking what first rounders bargain for so things are looking better, however this isn't out the woods yet.

LSU rotation of Lee and Gausmann will be Omaha caliber next year.

The Rivals article I read yesterday made me feel somewhat confident in him coming to campus, although obviously anything can happen.
Mentions like 6 seperate times in the interview that he is leaning much more towards coming to college....Lets just hope a team doesn't throw a stupid amount of money at him, because you can't blame him if that happens.

Gausmann

Unfamiliar with the situation, can someone give me a ballpark guesstimate of where he gets drafted that puts him in the Minors and not in Purple and Gold?

Not where he's drafted but what a team offers him. If he gets over 3 million he says then he signs, but that's a redicous amount of money.

Good story on him

A lot of people said the same thing last year at this time about the other two pitchers...

I'd bail on LSU for ~3.5 mil in a heartbeat

Not trying to knock Gaus but if anything, he needs a lot of refining. His Fastball has amazing potential but his other pitches are incredibly raw. He has a excellent ceiling of potential.
Lee on the other hand, will likely step in next year and play a lot, if not start. He has more polish than any other pitcher in this class. Hes very important to get on campus, IMO. I think hes going to be a stud.
Adam, I heard Lee was topping out at 95mph Fastballs, any truth to that? I also heard his Changeup has a ton of potential.

Yes he did in fact top out at 95mph. He had been at 90-91mph months and months ago but his velocity has steadily been up this spring.

von rosenberg scarred me for life last year. all those articles about him coming to lsu and he signed...i'm gonna be cautiously optimistic on lee.

At this point I hope Lee comes to LSU as much for baseball as I do for football. We need him in both.

ZVR ran with like 1.2 or 1.5 mill. If Lee requires 3 mill to bolt from LSU, Im pretty damn confident hes coming.

This kid is to special to give up either sport.
He has that rare focus for a kid his age. i don't care how people evaluate his physical ability, his mental/maturity for a kid his age is special. When you find a person that is focused, driven, and doesn't allow outside things to side track him or her, you have a star. This is zack lee.
I see this kid succceeding at both sports and able to choose his destination. All he has to do is insure himself for the million dollar policy college athletes are allowed, perform, and he'll see much bigger money than anything that will be thrown at him this year.
the more i learn about this kid, he's the most under rated athlete out there. he's got that drew brees type mental focus. great athlete, great drive to succeed, focused, and not phased by outside things.
i'd hate to see this kid give up a sport or dream when he has the opportunity for much bigger options and dreams.
if he has to give one up, then demand big time money that sets an 18 year old up for the rest of their life. 5 million would be my number. (remember the government gets close to half. leaves him with 2.5, that's even a stretch if he's set for life at 18)
excel at both, you're looking in the 10-50 million.
he gets hurt, you have the million insurance policy. (first round money for baseball)
doesn't pan out, get a good degree to make good money.
his entire future is ahead of him. i look forward to seeing it.

Exactly! Also, I can 2nd the part about his mental toughness and focus. It's off the charts. Zach never gets rattled and has an ability to filter out all of the distractions like no one I have ever met. I have a feeling it's going to take more money than any MLB team is willing to offer for Zach to miss out on a chance to experience College, get his degree and give up one sport or the other..
Special athletes like Zach are motivated in ways that most of us can't understand.

How in the world could he do both at LSU and START at qb.
He would miss every Spring because of baseball. And he would miss alot of baseball preparation staying out the entire football season.
At some point I know he would have to choose football only IF he planned on being the starter.
I just don't think it's feasible to start at QB on LSU's team and not participate in Spring ball. We have a tremendously complex offense (obviously from the whole team not getting it last year) and I don't think you can part time it and be the QB.
SO to me, it is a waste of his and our time for him to try both BECAUSE OF THE POSITIONS HE PLAYS IN BOTH.
What a steal it would be if he does come though. He will end up playing baseball only and basically pass up the majors just to pitch at LSU!!!
Do not misunderstand me, I think he is special, but to start in two sports programs that are both top tier in the country at the positions that require arm use and qb which requires so much TIME spent on the field to be a good leader, it's just not very likely.
He redshirts in football, then sits as a fresh and then maybe starts his third year and goes pro in baseball that year and we lose him to baseball. Is it good to go thru all that and jsut have him play qb 1 year? I say no. Time would be better spent developing someone else.

dear lord, you must be a miserable soul to sit there and think of every reason in the world why lsu should fire their coaches, why every athlete should not play.
john elway, bo jackson, jake locker, bryan jordan, jared mitchell, deon sanders all say you're wrong. great athletes can do both.
pitchers do not have to be available every day during the spring. even w/o the spring, there are many games post spring.
