If he's not good enough to be in this class now, why is he good enough to be in next years class in a loaded LA?

I would understnad if he could benefit from the extra year to bulk up and play on the line but that doesn't seem like the case with him.

It seems as thought grayshirting these guys is a waste of both LSU and the player's time as well as a waste of a scholarship.

I see this guys like this being the next rocky duplesis, kellen theriot, or josh johns.

I know people will mention elliot porter but i think that's a different set of circumstances in that there was depth in front of him that were upper classmen so he wasn't needed but there was room down the road.

How would a kid like Duke Riley ever play with the LBs we took last year and this year?

Not a knock on Riley i just dont see him ever contributing along with 90% of all grey shirt.

Please someone inform the wisdom of greyshirting just about any kid ever. Like i said it seems like a disservice to the kid.

depth at lb with all of this year's fr
not a need position

Riley was being offered gs because of LSU holding spots for the likes of Willis and RN

If there are extra spots someone like Riley probably gets that offer. Carter was another candidate but he probably sticks with Nebraska especially since LSU already has a commitment from the 2014 Westlake TE - can't remember his name

Because kids mature at different times.

Is next years class loaded at his position?

i agree. Have we had any standout grey shirt guys that were marginal prospects out of HS or didnt have grade problems?

something else that irks me is when LSU seemingly recruits a guy all year without an offer, but they play in the state title game and the offer comes right after. This seems to happen every few years, and always comes off as reactionary to me.

Was Riley not good enough after his JR year? 3 weeks into his SR season? 6 weeks? whats the deal?

I actually wasn't inferring an opinion on Riley but rather just acknowledging that those guys were grey shirt guys who contributed.

And Harry Coleman was recruited by Saban, I think Trindon was the year after.

Yep...Trindon came in with Williams, Scott and Murphy. Jimbo was the guy that really got him into LSU from what I recall.

I think coaches also weigh gray shirting choices with the kid's financial situation as well.

We're competing with Ole Miss for another guy that's pretty decent from my understanding.
