I think Porter would make an excellent OT. He's all over the field as a DE and he looks very quick.
Lynx, wouldn't that equate to OT instead of OG?
I was thinking that Porter was playing DT, but he may have been a hybrid type guy.
OT and OG is realy hard to project, especially on a guy where most schools have offered him as a DL and then LSU goes and offers as an OL.
I've read that he has great feet which is why the coaches offered (to go along with a good frame), but I would lean towards OG if I had to choose between OT and OG for Porter.
I think Evan Washington would fill a OT spot, leaving La'el Collins in 2011 to lock up the coveted LT spot.

lynx, watching his film, it looks like Porter is a DE in a 3-4. So it's more of a DT role than DE.
Porter said on the Tigerbait article from yesterday that he was offered at guard.

Don't count out Chad Lindsay. Some say Lindsay may show up at camp in July.
Not enough scholarships available for a guy like that.

Thanks Colt. Yeah OG sounds right for a guy like him.
Washington is the OL pickup we really need.

On another note, Colt you up for helping with the recruiting project that we need to get going?
Are you familiar with the one we did last year?

I remember it a little. Yall gave pretty detailed descriptions of the recruits, going through their strengths and possibly their weaknesses. And I think then gave them a number rating out of 100. I remember being very impressed with the long descriptions that some of them were!
It was some good shite.
lynx, if you get something goin' up quick, I can probably help with it. It's probably not something I can do longterm though. I'm frequenting this and other boards a lot right now, but don't expect to be in the fall.
You can tell that I LOVE recruiting and would be totally down for something like that bc I do like breaking down the film. I just wouldn't want to commit to something longterm to you, and then screw you later on if I disappear from the board.
So I guess, you should put me down as "playing it by ear" to see when you start your project, and if I'm still on here a lot at that time, I will certainly volunteer with some of the guys.

who's your nephew?
Has LSU offered Wes yet? He could be a dominant guard if he committed himself, he just has to decide between which sport. I think he will be better served focusing on one or the other.

I still say Allen would be a beast at LT.
Can you say "Will Blackwell" all over again?
Posted on 6/24/09 at 8:32 pm to locotiger
I'm not so sure about that. Allen is much longer and faster, and potentially more liken to a NFL guy with the same last name and intials
Posted on 6/24/09 at 8:36 pm to joechristoppher77
blackwell was always seen as a guy that would prolly switch just because of his length. allen is much longer and has a quicker first step. he also has better technique at this point compared to blackwell as a junior.
Posted on 6/24/09 at 8:47 pm to lsu777
I agree with that. I watched Blackwell play many times when he was in high school and could see by his use of hands and the way he moved that he was destined for the OL, particularly inside. I think he will be very good there in the near future
Posted on 6/24/09 at 8:53 pm to joechristoppher77
i only got to see him play live one time so the rest of my thoughts just come from film but to me it seemed his technique never really improved after his soph. year. despite the shortcomings between the ears I always thought luther was going to be the better of the 2 because of his length and his use of his hands. will relied on his strength way to often. Thats why i think he will do well as a guard, he can get away with not having the best hands. He is going to have to work on his steps as thats his major weakness right now and is really holding him back at guard.
Posted on 6/24/09 at 9:05 pm to lsu777
I agree Luther looked to have more potential early on in high school on defense, until their senior year, when I wasn't at all impressed with Davis... he looked like he had lost a step and would have to move inside
Posted on 6/24/09 at 9:08 pm to joechristoppher77
yea in his junior film he had a much quicker first step. at times his senior year he took plays off.

LSU won't get Washington. OU gets Washington.
