What's going on with CJ West?

Didn't we offer right out the gate when he hit the portal? It's been super quiet around him since the start. Not sure where we stand with him and if we're still in the running.

Grades are a major issue. He would not qualify.

Rumor was a grade issue but that's been debunked. Looks like Michigan and FSU are leading.

It wasnt a grades issue it was a he wouldnt get here until August issue because he wanted to graduate first (needed summer sessions), which shouldnt be an issue considering we missed on basically everyone else now

Okay, this is a little concerning. Not sure about FSUs NIL but I know Michigan doesn't fork out more than us.
How are we losing this battle? It really is becoming borderline bizarre that we're already a contender, we've acquired some of the best defensive coaches over the last few months, and we're still not a destination station for mid-level DTs?

Grades aren’t an issue. The coaches wrongfully thought we could get Barrow and/or Williams and don’t have solid backup plans. Billy alluded to how we could have easily gotten the Blidi kid over Auburn with the money we had prepared for Williams

The last thing that’s been reported from Shea and Billy is that they wanted (and still want) to get him in on a visit but they haven’t been able to convince him to come.
Honestly it sounds like the staff just screwed this up a little. Seems like they were overconfident in their ability to land a top-level guy and didn’t take the blidi and west recruitments as seriously as they probably should have. Billy has indicated that they could have blown auburn out of the water for blidi with the money they offered Williams.
Obviously they’re all different players and you want them to go for the best guys they can, but I think this was sort of the same thing that had people a little disconcerted when they more or less sat out the early period: All along they’ve played this DT search like they’d be able to come in at the end and hand pick the guys they wanted without any real challenge. But when you have a need as great as we currently have, you can’t afford that type of overconfidence - you HAVE to land someone, even if it’s just a solid starter like blidi or west and not a higher end guy like williams. I guess they’ll probably learn their lesson.

If they didn't think Blidi was worth it, why should they offer him the same money as Williams?
If we could've "blown Auburn's offer out of the water" then obviously Auburn didn't think he was worth more either.
