and he took over a program that was shite for a decade. none of these kids have signed anything yet and I fully expect Bama and LSU and Florida and Georgia (in no order) to continue recruiting better than Auburn.
it's only June and no has signed on the dotted line yet. also, Auburn has signed 5* players before.

You're absolutely right. But the amount of interest in a school by top recruits seemingly generated by one of the most criticized head coaching hirings in years doesn't exactly make a hell of a lot of sense.
ETA: For what it's worth, rightfully or not, if Turner Gill would have been hired and the cascade of top recruits started putting Auburn at the top of their list, people would be less surprised.

Yeah, for all the talk about Auburn, they really haven't gotten anyone too big yet, but the recruiting buzz about Auburn is becoming eerily similar to Ole Miss during the Coach O years.
They also didn't land all the huge prospects that mentioned them, but they got a lot more talent than would be reasonably expected.

Why are you dumbasses still talking about Auburn? Who really gives a shite...
...And why is this on the recruiting board?
...And why the hell isn't it football season yet?

Well, if it's an 11-page thread, apparently a decent amount of people.

i remember at the time a lot of AU fans saying it was because all the students lived off campus in trailers because they were cheaper than apartments.
A lot of the students do live in trailors in some big parks. I never did while I was in school, but had a first cousin that did and it was not bad at all. Lot more room than a door and you made a lot of friends grilling out and with some wild keg parties that would not fly anywhere outside of a frat house. Plus, my Aunt bought it for him. Four years rent free and they sold it for over a 20k profit after renting it to a friend of my cousin after he graduated. It is not a bad idea in college especially when you own it then sell it 4 years later. And it is not the majority. I would guess maybe 15-20% of students live in them and that would probably be less than 10% of the population in AU.
ETA: I was replying to posts as I read through this thread. It appears the stats have already been supplied and it is even less than my estimation. Whoever said 55-60% must be a complete idiot. Glad it was an LSU guy and not an AU guy.

Its called the college experience. Most people will end up working in big metropolitan areas the rest of their lives. College is about getting away. Small college towns are not bad.
+ 1000000. I would not trade my college years in a college town for anything. The university is the town, and for a college experience a metroplitan area like Baton Rouge is not as good imo (and yes I have been to BR half a dozen times and every year AU played there when I was in school).
I have lived in Atlanta, Miami, and Houston as well as the gulf coast. Been to over half a dozen different countries and a dozen or more states. Spent 1-2 weeks in Chicago, Washington DC, Dallas, and Philly. Worked for the last 10 years mainly in large cities. Outside of living on the beach, I would choose AU as a place I could be happy spending my life. A very nice college town with plenty to do, good people, very low crime, very clean, well educated, and the common thread of the university and Auburn experience for everyone. If I could make the money I do now living in Auburn I would be very tempted to do it. Atlanta is a straight shot an hour and a half away on any given weekend or to catch a flight.

then go to UGA.
I can agree with this. To me, AU, UGA, and UF are the three best places to attend college in the southeast (and I have been to all the schools except UK and Starkville). Ole Miss is nice for a college town and similar but AU, UGA, and UF have everything you could ask of a college town and experience along with the athletic programs and passionate football fanbase. I do not like LSU and tuscaloosa as much because they are more urban and the university is less of the total reason for the town. Plus urban area = ghetto and crime to a much greater level than a college town where 90% of the people have the university in common in one way or another. You get to be in college 4-5 years, then move to a big city or urban area to work the next 40 (for most people). Take advantage of the college town and experience the short time you can.

...again, why is this on the recruiting board? This is for LSU recruiting not Auburn recruiting.

Exactly, if recruits were basing their decision on how wonderful a city is, everytime a recruit have the option of playing at Texas or LSU, they would pick Texas every single time.
No doubt. I dated a girl from UT I met in training for two weeks and spent many weekends flying to Austin. Austin is a cool college town imo and close to big cities in San Antonio and Houston.

Couple of morons that have never been to AU (Maximus and Slow Pro) ran their mouth too much and a few Aubies and others happened to notice.

When has Aubbie featured a back "like Seastrunk"?
AU has produced and is better known for great backs than LSU. And now AU is going to an offense that is basically tailor made for a back like seastrunk. You will see in the way Fannin is utilized this year. Although he is bigger than Lache he is a converted speedy shifty qb/wr that will be a focul point of our offense.
Posted on 6/7/09 at 8:10 pm to Tiger n Miami AU83
Wherever he goes, Seastrunk will be utilized in a similar way. Coaches like Woody Hayes don't really exist anymore in major college football.
However, not all passing attacks and offensive lines are the same.

It's our recruiting coordinator Curtis Luper and Trooper Taylor. These two guys are some of the best recruiters out there. They have a way with connecting with the kids
The coaching staff put together a top 15 recruiting class for 09 in three weeks. I dont see why the recruiting buzz is surprising people

was something going on under the table when Saban started to recruit well at LSU after DiNardo had the program in the gutter?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saban was a proven winner from his MSU days when he took over from DiNardo.
Bingo. LSU was aweful for most of the 90's before Saban. They were pitiful. AU has been one of the top SEC teams this decade behind only UF and only slightly behind LSU (in their greatest decade ever in wins/losses). AU now>>>LSU when Saban got there. Also AU better than LSU in 2 of the last 3 decades and not far behind this decade (I think about 1 win per year even counting last year).
And as for Saban at MSU, he had what, 1 good year and averaged about 5 losses a year? Chizik had a bad record at IS, but also was a part of the BCS national championship at UT and an undefeated season at AU.
Not to mention the TOP notch recruiters he has brought to AU.
