I'll ask my boy Mike S.
please do, if you can find out is Rivals, 24/7 and ESPN had a bunch of LSU fans drop as well.
Look, its not a great class, it does fill some needs and has some nuce, maybe under rated players. Its certainly not the end of the world, but its still not a great class. The * ratings do not guarentee success, but its not completely meaningless either.

RP - super talented. He was a frick up. Miles can't possibly know he would screw up this bad when recruiting him. Tons of major schools would have taken this kid if we didn't.
Lee - was pretty highly touted coming out of high school. He got thrown to the wolves.
JJ - maybe not super highly touted, but after seeing him as a true freshman many people thought he could be the real deal.
You can question Miles' ability to coach up his QB's, but he has brought in some people that lots of other schools would have loved to have.
He also brought in Mett, Rivers and Randall. Jury is still out on those guys, but it's not bad news that we have any of them in my opinion. Losing Kiel hurt, but it's not the end of the world for the qb position at LSU. They need to be coached up. Krags got that.

Agreed. UT is typically in the top 5 in recruiting and look how they have done the last 2 years. Honestly, who gives a shite about the recruiting rankings.
THIS
You recruit for what you need, not for how many stars you can amass. I trust the LSU recruiting staff to get what this team needs to win. End of story.

Another thing that pisses me off about these idiots, they can't understand that Rivals' sucks.
I hate to tell you that Rivals has had the most success of predicting class rankings. They have the highest ranking of all the recruiting services.I don't like Rivals either but that doesn't change the fact that their assessment of talent has been better than the other recruiting services.Wish I had better news for you but sometimes the truth hurts. We still have until 1/30/2012 to recruit and then the dead period starts until NSD.

I suppose it's just a coincidence that the program which has dominated Rivals recruiting rankings over the last five years has also won two of the last three MNC's and continues to produce copious first round draft picks. The recruiting rankings have been statistically validated time and time again by various commentators over the last ten years. There is a statistically significant correlation between class rankings and on-field performance. Rather than irrationally decrying the rankings, it would be more forthcoming and honest to just admit that the 2012 LSU class (to date) is mediocre. Not horrible. But not elite, thus far.

So..you are telling me that if I buy a subscription.
Then Sandolph will be a 5 star and LC a 3 star.
Where does Sandolph pick up the physical freak pill after I give my 9.99. Walgreens?

Look, we all know this whole recruiting site thing has turned into a monster. If Rivals Bama site sell more subs than LSU's, then they give the love to Bama. Tell them what they want to hear, and sell more Kool-Aid.
And each site wants to feature their own version of the top players. They all move around, but in reality, their is pretty much agreement in who the top 100 players are, just not the specific rankings. When we don't have hardly anyone in the top 100 - regardless of specific ranking - it is a cause for concern and with a 25% turnover every year, you can't do this more than one year and it not have an effect.
Honestly, this is a decent class, but no real star power. And that's what these potential big time recruits want (Louisiana ones as well) - star power. They want to see their names mentioned, and they want it mentioned with the big programs. Despite our proven on field success, LSU just doesn't get nearly the mentions of the other schools.
Now the original post kind of refers to the fact that the rankings and opinions of Rivals, ESPN, etc don't matter, but the fact is that even though ESPN is terrible, when a recruit sees ESPN and his name, he's pumped. They don't care how accurate they are.
So yes, as much as they are wrong, it IS important to stay in the top 10 of every site, whether or not they know what they are doing or not.
If it looks like a duck, and walks like a duck......

The problem is he didn't bring in enough QB's.
When Les was hired Russell and Flynn both were Soph's and he signed RP and red shirt him in 05. Now that sounds like you're loaded but you're not, they needed a QB in 06 and didn't sign one. So after the 06 season you've gonna lose either JR or MF and RP is the #2 guy. They sign just Lee in 07 and JJ in 08. In 09 they signed Shep who they moved to WR and Garrett who they basically booted off the team, then only signed Z Lee who they knew was a MLB risk. So you effectively have no QB's in 09 or 10. You've got to get at least 1 QB every class and sometimes 2, because you never know who won't work out and if a couple flame out, you've got no depth and you get what we've seen the last 4 years.

It seems they felt JJ was better than Wilson, just sayin...
Interesting list. If you remember back when, LSU committed QB DC Jefferson from Florida, and when we committed JJ, he switched to Rutgers because he wanted to play QB. Well, that didn't work out too well for him. Schiano switched him to a TE in his first year.
The another 5 star heralded QB in Dayne Crist to Notre Dame. Not there anymore. We'll see how the next 5 star QB does there.
Mike Glennon, Star Jackson??? I just goes to show you not every 5 star plays out - even at Bama...

The thing is, is that LSU is trying to get these high ranked players and LSU is usually in their top 3, but then they choose everyone else. That shouldnt be happening. We are basically ending up with the players who have smaller offers. (Im talking about this year btw). In alot of the past years, the big players were choosing LSU and we were having top recruiting classes. I know you guys are saying Les developes them in to players but we had good classes. If we keep having classes like the 2012 class, trust me......LSU will not be going to title games. This needs to be the only pitiful class.

just a hunch, but I'd bet more 5* QB's flame out than other positions.

Rivals sucks now. They were good in their time but as of right now they are bad and everyone knows it. The best talent evaluators they had during their glory years are no longer there. Most of them are on 247 now. Rivals only has the mouthpieces and corporate guys now. Mike Farrell is a joke. Barry Every is a solid evaluator but he has openly admited that rankings can be bought so he lost all credibility. The 2 Florida guys are homers in the truest sense of the word. The Nee guy is horrible. Brian Perroni the Texas guy is a Texas homer and just isn't very good at all. The west coast guy is the best talent evaluator on there. They rely way too heavily on camps,combines,hype,7 on 7 and all star games to validate their rankings. Basically anything but actual football. Their past history is irrelevent to their validity now. Different owners and different talent evaluators. They are completely corporate and that isn't what recruiting is about.
