We currently sit at 3 in the top 100.. one in the top 50. Unless they are over evaluated; I’d love to see us pull way more highly ranked recruits despite the stars or not.

Why don’t we attract more highly ranked recruits? Is it NIL or are the coordinators not able to pull away with a commitment?

Louisiana is down is the main reason.

Hopefully some of these East Tx kids flip to LSU.

It all depends on the service you use.

On3 has LSU with one 5 star in Weston Davis and everyone pretty much agrees that Trey Green will get his 5th when the rankings come out again.

So that's two top 100 guys and you also have Durham who is top 100 on one site, Jelani Watkins, CJ Jackson, Ethan Callaway, Xavier Atkins all ranked in the top 100 by at last one service. You also have Billiot & Tylen who are right on that cusp. It's also a bit of a down year in LA overall but LSU is likely to finish with 2 five stars and a boatload of 4*'s. And that's if you dont get any more flips from some of the guys you're in on down the stretch.

I’d take that. But still only a few in the top 100? I feel like that’s below average for a top tier program. Right?

Very true. Also they haven’t signed LOI yet either. Flips happen as well as said.

So you don’t care about the stars as long as they’re top 100? Reasonable

There's also been talk that DeShawn McBryde could get a huge bump well into the top 100 as well.

If we finish strong, flip Reliford, and the 2 Juco DT's, and flip 1 of Bussey or Miller, along with the other irons we have in the fire, along with the final rankings bumps, we could finish top 5.

To hear some of y'all bitch, you'd think we were outside the top 25.

We cannot continue to solely rely on LA kids. You’ll never be consistent that way. And we CANNOT keep losing 2-3 of our top 5 players in state to other SEC schools.

I was looking at an article on ESPN today regarding last year's recruiting classes and how those true freshmen have performed this season.

Now, I know that most people consider the ESPN recruit rankings to be the least reliable among the recruiting rankings, but the article was eye-opening nonetheless.

Alabama has six top-fifty recruits who haven't played a single snap this year. Even given the discrepancy of the ratings among the various recruiting services, it's pretty instructive.

You've got to stack recruiting classes, year after year, to have the talent and depth to consistently compete for championships. While I don't think LSU has to stack top-three or -four classes each year to be in that conversation, finishing in the top six or seven every year probably is a key to competing every year.

You can't do that every year with just Louisiana players, but locking down Louisiana most years is the basis of such classes. Getting the right coaches and recruiters on the defensive side of the ball would clearly go a long way toward straightening out that side of the ball. The performance and recruiting on the offensive side appear to be good enough to compete for championships.
