I was buying into what you were saying somewhat until you got here.

He is not a 5 star caliber player.

They won't be talking shite about Claiborne when he wins the 100m and 200m in his class at the state meets this year.

I dont think you understand what i was saying,I think stars are bs. I was referring to what kind of success he would have in the state of florida and what kind of overblown opinion would result.

Just because you say this type of player is a dime a dozen doesn't mean that he is a bad player.

as far as Derby saying he was under radar, well thats just stupid. LSU was obviously on to him. Just because you didnt read about him on Rivals doesnt mean he isnt any good.

So, lemme get this straight:

Rivals and Scout, as well as OU, TX, Florida, Auburn, Bama, UGA, Notre Dame (and every other big time school that recruits Shreveport) just whiffed completely on the kid?

quote:

Fair Park isnt exactly a fertile recruiting grounds.

It's inner-city Shreveport, which is one of the state's biggest cities... how could it not be?

quote:

When you play on shitty teams, some times its hard for a school to find you, even if you are a really good HS player like Claiborne.

..and against shitty competition, but still ...it's Shreveport, a highly populated area in the state where many great players have come from before. Just because he didn't play at Evangel doesn't mean that nobody can possibly know about him

kids fall through the cracks pretty routinely

Our coaches obviously liked the potential they saw in him at CB in camp over the summer. Did you attend these camps derby?

You questioning the validity of this player's talent simply because of who you have seen play is wrong.

I never questioned the validity of his talent... I simply said everything he offers on paper is easily found

I have no doubts that he is a heckuva athlete, but I was intrigued by what the coaches saw in him that they could not find anywhere else ..that's all

again, I'm not questioning his talent

I had heard he camped well, which obviously went a long way for him getting an offer (like Wiliford). I did not realize he was DEFINITELY a CB conversion project... I thought through the chronology of the recruiting process and based on who his personal recruiter was that he possibly could have been recruited to get a first look as a slot receiver

and no I was not. why, were you?

nope sure wasn't our coaches clearly liked his potential though. Are they infallible? Not at all, but they have a much larger sample size to judge from then you or I.

I haven't seen enough on the guy at his speculated position one way or the other to form an opinion, but you have to like his measurables. Its a hard position to project at the next level so you really can't have enough of them IMO especially in today's CFB game.

Kids that can play QB, run under 4.5, pass for 1000 yards and run for another 1000 are not a dime a dozen.

I was just intrigued about what qualities they saw in him, that's all. I know they believe he is talented and I won't discredit that one bit. Just wondering

I do agree with this ...since CB is a position that is usually a projection since many kids did not play it full time in high school, it is far from an exact science finding guys who can handle the position and what it calls for

can't argue with you there ...if he indeed is a CB and not something else for us

Morris Claiborne is a player deserving of a scholly

He is a gifted athlete, with intangible qualities

Im putting my money on the fact that he will be the biggest sleeper we have seen in a while

Derby
His measureable might be a "dime a dozen",but I have seen him play and it is easy to see things about him that sets him above the other dozen.
He is clutch!!! I saw him make 3 circus catches in his playoff game with Haughton. I could see him play WR also(even tho we are stacked there).
He was also a big leader for his team and it was very apparent!

i personally thought his video highlights were better than drayton calhoun's, and several other players that were ranked higher. i dont know this for a fact, but i do believe he was overlooked by the recruiting services for some reason or another. maybe just not enough interest for whatever reason, but this isnt unusual. im just glad he was under the radar and the coaching staff spotted him.

"Everyone lists him 'under the radar'", but ESPN knew about him
