The validity of paid Recruting services...

As a fan who does not subscribe to a paid service, what transpired on Thursday really made me question the true validity of these paid sites. I realize that recruiting is the lifeblood of a program and the allure of forecasting what players are in play to build a class is enticing & entertaining. However, in my view, Thursday showed me how very little insiders really know and can effectively predict who's going to commit where. Although the services provide very useful information on the recruits with videos, etc., they should stay out of the prognostication business simply because it's not based on fact & creates unrealistic expectations for their subscribers.

As far as recruiting, I can't argue with you on the prediction thing. However, you would never hear of some recruits if it weren't for the paid sites, or you would hear of them way after the fact.
I subscribe to two, BBI and S&S. What I like about BBI is not so much the recruiting news, but the inside the program stuff you get. There really is no recruiting insider there, although there's supposed to be one, and it isn't Derek Ponamsky. Derek's inside info comes from the staff, and he's spot on about the actual TEAM. For instance, Mills to safety was reported there WEEKS ago. The depth chart is released, and he's at CB. But sure enough, Mills played safety.
That's what I like about BBI. But recruiting? Yeah, they should all just stop trying to predict.

I don't understand why someone would pay money to know something earlier when it is a givethat the info will come out at least half a year before it is relevant anyway.

If the staffs info isn't good because they have been misled, then the predictions will be flawed. On Thursday, their appears to have been some purposeful deception committed by certain kids.

I think they know some stuff for sure, but they definitely tell fan bases what they want to hear to sell subscriptions. Its an easy bluff really, predict a kid to LSU or wherever then if it doesnt happen, say things are fluid and something changed at the last minute. They can blame family members, bad visits, disrespectful fan base, etc.. easy out.

Who is really good at predicting anything? Look at your weatherman. How often are they wrong? I think people just get upset when things don't go the way they want. But when recruits tell people they are committing and then don't, there not much you can do.

There is no such thing as insider info unless it's coming from the player or his mom or dad.....period! No coach or reporter has that privilege!!!

That may be true, but then what are we paying for? No one wants to pay for incorrect information. The weatherman is wrong a ton but I'm not subscribing for his service. Subscribers have every right to be upset when the information provided is this inaccurate. They have a right to demand some standard of product quality.
They should allow fans to predict where recruits will sign, and if fans are more accurate than them, they get free subscription service. They'd never do that because too many fans would kick their arses.

might as well tell you my high school board concept for when i win the powerball
my site will not be a recruiting site. it will be more of a talent evaluation site. schools or parents or other groups will hire my firm to provide professional cameras at a game. some of these videos provided for evaluation are garbage. lets get some real video where true in-game evaluation can be provided
then i will bring on REAL talent evaluators. former coaches. guys that know what they are looking for as it pertains to technique
from that point, the production is akin to the NFL Matchup show on television. I don't care where a kid goes to school or what he is offered. You show video of his positives and negatives, perhaps get a sit down interview with the kid, and then allow the subscriber to draw their own conclusions

It is clear to me that it is all about entertainment. The crystal ball deal looked great for a while this season until it flopped. When you add in the obvious Bama bias in terms of evaluating and rating recruits, recruiting services suck at providing any useful information. I can find as much as I need to know here (who LSU is after, visits, announcement dates, actual commitments, etc). The rest is nothing but drama to make people feel like they know where recruits are going to commit before everyone else and to stroke the Bama egos. It all sells subscriptions, so I don't fault these services for doing it. Just don't expect to get accurate information.

Sonny and Shea are very solid guys who never mislead intentionally. They have legitimate sources who unfortunately last Thursday were lied to by a few recruits...hence why they were projecting 4 for 5 or even 5 for 5 but we ended up with 2.
You get to read a lot of inside info you would typically not get on here or other free sites, plus, you tend to not have to sift through the 90% of bullshite we have on here from this rumor or that rumor. Sonny and Shea will flat out tell you if a rumor is a rumor and whether or not they believe it.

They may or may not have solid info, but they are right more often than wrong, regarding LSU. Their "guys" got word that we were going to do well on Thursday, and we didn't. Their guys were told by their guys, who were reportedly lied to by the recruits.
It happens.
It happens.

It's hard to be accurate when the kids lie to everyone

Yep
I was a little frustrated Thursday, and thinking about canceling my sub, not out of anger of Sonny/Shea, but because of the nature of recruiting now.
I realized that the money is worth it for the excellent articles and the recruiting coverage, in which I don't have to go through the bullshite on here.

Exactly, and this is the current state of recruiting. High profile recruits want to play the game like all of the others before them. In order to do so, they have to keep people guessing. It's silly to think that these kids are going to be more honest with an "insider" when they know it is going to be sold as premium info.

No doubt they were shaking in their boots with some angry customers on Thursday. If the recruiting game continues to trend this direction it's going to be tough for them to keep jobs. People arent going to pay for flat out guessing.
