Apparently not if we want great O-line prospects.

That's what they do and I think they are going to mess themselves up. Most recruits outside of Texas, Oklahoma, or Arizona know that Texas recruits mostly in-state so no one really shows much interest in them. I think by aiming at OOSers, they are still going to miss on a lot of them, and miss on a lot of Texas guys that they would have normally gotten, but by going in this new direction, they wait too long on them.

Just for reference, OOS commits for Texas:

2012: 1 (Arizona) Connor Brewer
2011: 1 (Oklahoma) Josh Turner
2010: 3 (Oklahoma, Louisiana, Ohio) DeMarco Cobbs, William Russ, Jordan Hicks
2009: 1 (Arkansas) Derek Johnson
2008: 1 (Colorado) Nolan Brewster
2007: 1 (California) Blaine Irby
2006: 2 (South Carolina, Colorado) Ben Alexander, Lamarr Houston

Of those, maybe 1 or 2 have contributed well, and the others either did nothing or haven't gotten playing time. If Mack sticks to this plan, he might be signing his moving papers soon

If UT moves in this "New Direction", they will shite the bed... A&M will sweep in and take'em, also if there were any texas school that could recruit in SEC territory it would be A&M

No he wasn't. He moved to Ohio when he was 9 years old.

Agreed, but to call him a senior tranfer is wrong. Twisting the truth to fit your argument is cheating.

Texas can recruit nationally if they choose to.The other coaches just have to convince Mack to do it.Most of their early interest OOS is for OL since they need a lot and obviously Searels isn't as high on the instate kids as the OOS kids.99% of kids outside of Texas has never had the opportunity to even be considered by Texas so it will be interesting to see how they take to it.I'm willing to bet that they'll be much more open to Texas than people think.Texas is likely the top program in the country, definitely top 3 so I'd think kids will be interested in seeing them.I just seriously doubt that Mack allows the staff to chase kids all year like other schools do that are more accustomed to doing it.He'll panic on a few kids and give the spot to a local kid that will jump on it.The biggest question with Texas going OOS for kids more regularly especially if they try to venture into SEC country is are they ready to play dirty and under the table like the Southeastern schools do?I have my doubts that they'll go far enough to battle with the SEC schools along with FSU,Miami,Clemson etc. to stay in the fight with SE kids.Should be interesting if they actually do it.

All this talk of Texas "re-directing" for a little more OOS talent is nonsense. There's just no reason to, and the risk of alienating Texas HS coaches and players is far too great. I just think Mack and the new staff are trying to be more patient this year after getting burned on a few highly touted early commits.

A&M, and several other D-1 schools in the state could live happily on Texas talent alone and have strong programs. The sheer population and emphasis on HS football allows for that. The problem for them, of course, is OU, LSU, and several others also have a strong base here. OU would be a nothing in college football if not for Texas talent. The last I saw.. of their 16 commits this year 11 were Texans and 1 from OK.

How stupid will Texas be if they start going after OOS recruits? I agree with some of you.

Why take the chance on OOS recruits when you have what you need at your convenience? The only thing that Texas is going to do by slow playing these in state recruits is open the doors for LSU, A&M, and Oklahoma. Whom they have already lost recruits here and there to......

If I'm an A&M fan, I'm ecstatic about this new "plan"

Not gonna lie, of the names I've heard thrown around on message boards he's the one I'm most intrigued by, but I haven't seen him put up by any of the normal sources just message board chatter.

Most of the reporting being done is about Junior day.

Tejashorn,i agree with you completely.I won't believe Texas is seriously recruiting OOS kids heavily until they do it.I was more playing devil's advocate in saying that they could if they chose to.Another part about that is what would the fanbase reaction be?You guys can give more insight into that.Texas fans have become accustomed to the fast fillup so there may be some bad chatter if things start moving at too slow a pace.I'm not sure Mack cares but it will be interesting to see what the reaction would be.

Are you actually arguing that by not signing 25 guys before the start of their senior year Texas will be alienating them?

They've only been loading up early for about 4-5 years now. Some of have said what they've been doing lately, only focusing on kids that were all Texas, was alienating people. I've heard Brandon Williams wanted to go to Texas, but Mack told Brown he would be the guy and that was it.

What happened to their 9-10 commit weekend?
I guess a few kids must have turned down their chance to commit.
