I hate to be that guy bitching about ranking, but here I go again. Shea & Billy bring great info for LSU on On3 but one of their must be superiors, I’m starting to not give a rata$$ about C Powers opinions or evaluations.
LSU - 3 weeks ago 247 #2 class: On3 #12
Today after more commitments around the nation we dropped a little but also climbed back a little lately
247 #4 class tinkering on #3
On3 moved up to #9 after being #12 (while 2 on 247)
Now Tylen Singleton- On3- #281, #24 LB
247- #140, #11 LB
I’m starting to not like Powers very much, and Billy & Shea though great info, need to grow a pair, Billy I understand he’s a passive line tow
But Shea has skin in the game with LSU. That’s right my ego and feelings are hurt as far as my overall BIAS to LSU goes. Right now I’m all in for 247 and my respect for On3 s recruiting analysis is fading. Power is becoming a tool to me. I’m not a Stargazer , but I do like Stars.

Brand value, and market share definitely seem to influence recruiting services and impact their rankings. And probably for a number of prospects, class rankings probably influence their excitement level and ultimately, their commitment. It’s kinda ugly but what can you do?

I dont and never will subscribe to any service. There’s just too many other ways for these guys to make money. I aint giving them mine. But Shea is smart and personable. As long as he puts out free stuff, I’ll consume.

Billy and Shea did an hour+ interview with Powers before the Feb signing day. The first 30 mins gives you good insight into the ranking process:

I agree. 247 has us at #4. Rivals has us at #2. Not sure how we are #9 on on3.

Not listening to it, I just said I don’t care about his opinions or evals any longer

Yeah, but you also can't make up your mind:

Because on3 weighs average ranking of prospect higher than number of prospects committed. We have a pretty low average prospect ranking which is why we are 9. It makes a lot of sense if you think about, average recruit ranking > number of recruits committed.

281 overall seems extremely low.

I actually think this is how they should do it. We have some big fish in the boat but they need to finish strong.

All of them are generally the same in all ways. Just different names to blame with the bitching. 90%(may be too generous) of the guys responsible for the ranking product are journalists or fanboys that conned their way into the business. The majority of us know this. Is it their fault for grifting or ours for allowing ourselves to be grifted? It's like taking scouting advice from Stephen A Smith.

I don’t understand their composite rankings. Some guys like Simmons are ranked #3 in the composite rankings yet only one other service has him that high. I thought that was supposed to be an industry average?

Great post, you are exactly correct. I love recruiting and finding out about recruits, I absolutely love it. That’s the reason I read these sites, but it irks me to listen to like you said journalists and fanboys evaluate talent which no doubt I or 1/2 the people on here could. So I bitch about it to the source but it’s all fun to me. I’m all in with 247 right now but that could change if LSU gets what I think it’s due in recruiting with On3. I like the one that sees every LSU recruit as the best of the best, hell Yes I’m biased, homer, LSU fanatic and I’ll battle them all over LSU commits. Powers is On3 ranking evaluator, he doesn’t trend LSU and I don’t agree with his evaluations. Can’t talk about the Admin which he must be part of or they’ll cut you. I know I’m babbling but that’s what got my nerves up is so I made a thread about T Singleton because their eval is so different from others. I’m sorry Serenity Now

Louisiana hasn’t been getting the same scouting/exposure since Covid. Not every website is sending guys to see the players in person anymore. Big reason for discrepancies in rankings imo.

What do you think "tinkering" means?
