That's what scout has him listed as.

Wells was 4.59 at the Combine

Hey Dodd..

quote:

Storm Johnson, RB, Junior, Loganville, Ga.
It's easy to see why this chiseled running back already has over a dozen scholarship offers. In 2008, he rushed for 1,300 yards averaging 11.3 yards per carry. At nearly 220 pounds, Johnson is high on the recruiting charts of schools like Oklahoma, Florida, LSU, USC, and Auburn. He topped the magical 100-point mark as he tallied a SPARQ rating of 102.3. Johnson definitely possesses both speed and quickness by running a 4.45 40 time and turning in a shuttle time of 4.2 seconds.

Looking at his film, I don't see 4.45. That has to be a generous hand time. Don't take that as a negative on the kid. I think he looks great and sheds tacklers like they're gnats.

Beanie and Knowshon ran the same "times" in highschool.

Did they get slower in college?

Not bashing, but I just don't see 4.47 on that film. I'd love it if he did.

Wells was 4.51 out of high school so says the recruting webs sites.

The shuttle time of 4.2 is very impressive he don't have to run 4.3 to be a helluva good running back.

Those are his times in at least 3 different states. He's run a sub 4.5 40 time consistantly in the past 4 months. I don't know what to tell ya.. He's the #14 ranked RB in the Nation & an ESPN Top 150 watch list player, who willlikely finish on the Top 150 list. He has something like 18-20+ offers.

Neither Wells nor Moreno ran those times at Sparq events. Sparq is the closest thing that high schools have to NFL combines. Which is why you typically see much slower times at these events. Storm is faster/end of discussion

i guess this will be one of those "wait for it" bets that we make now and see the results in 4-5 years when he runs for NFL scouts

4.45: SFP picks the over

hell we almost never have guys leave LSU running 4.45s

Haha..........just like we almost never read insightful post from you.........

Again........a 40 time......1 of the most overrated things in football........Just watch the kids films........he is everything you want in a RB.

I can name you numerous skill position players that didn't run a 4.45 that got drafted in the 1st round.

I'm impressed with his balance. There were a number of times in that video when he should have gone down but somehow didn't. He doesn't look especially fast to me, but he looks fast enough.

How did LSU get the upper hand on this kid.Did Georgia not make him a must get years ago? Just curious.

Is it just me or is he built a lot like Moreno (1st picture) but just a hair thicker? I can't watch the video but I'm sure he's a good pick up.

Probably not since he didn't even start last year. He was the #2. Then again the guy that started signed with Air Force.

I think you guys are taking what some of us are saying the wrong way. I think everyone loves the pickup and loves the guy as a running back. We're just saying if you watch his film he doesn't look like a 4.45 guy.

I'm sure that some will disagree, but he reminds me of Cecil Collins in the way he runs. I think he will do great for us, and I'm glad we got him.

Same thing was said about Emmet Smith when he was coming out of high school, in spite of his prodigious yards gained during his career. He didn't do too badly at Florida or the NFL from what I remember.

I'm not sure how you can draw that conclusion just based on that film. There are several instances where he was in a lower gear while he was looking for an angle or block in the secondary. When he got past his man, he hit the next gear. There were almost no clips of a DB catching him. If he is slower than 4.45 it's not by much.

Even if he's not that fast, what's better is he seems to fool guys into thinking he's slower. Many times the DB was taking a bad angle. I really like the combination of strong downhill runner and great field vision and quick feet in the open field. Makes him more versatile than Lache IMO.

Great pick up!
