They're not mythical. They actually exist. Even the Arkansas kid Hunter Henry admitted being a silent for a week and a half before going public. Now that's short term in the grand scheme but he was silent nonetheless. Some Arkansas people were genuinely concerned about Bama and Stanford the day he went public.
Kenneth Santa Marina has been silent to Bama since June. It's just now starting to get out. The purpose of them is for others to decide but they do exist.
Just like the noncommitable offer was said on here to be mythical. Tell Adam Taylor that. Same with Rod Crayton.

Almost as bad as the douche move made by Janzen Jackson. Our first commit for that recruiting yr. Doesn't sign on signing day to intentionally flip to Tenn. If they would let coaches know in the 11th hour, instead of their "shock the world" mentality, we could've offered another player at that position. Media whoring.

Greg Gilmore has LSU listed as his top school. I believe the reason why he hasn't already committed is because his mother hasn't gotten a chance to see the school yet. That's planned to happen sometime in mid-August. I believe he'll commit afterwards. His mother's approval matters a lot to him, which is a great thing!

I am sure they do, but not nearly in the exaggerated numbers we see claims made here and there. It's more overused than non committable offer.
