These kids were 9-10 years old when Saban left LSU so I highly doubt they gave a frick or knew who LSU's coach was when they were ages 4-9. Seriously. They only know what people around them say or what they hear on TV or read on the internet. Kids that say different are lying 90% of the time. I have kids that love sports that are 10 and 12 and trust me they had no clue who LSU's coach was 7 years ago. They only know him from Bama and that's enough.

All these kids keep saying Bama has been on them longer but in most cases that is simply not true. Does a letter with the Bama heading count really? That's all they would have gotten as Freshman. You'd be amazed at hbow many of thos letters go out. If Bama was recruiting Beckwith as a freshman then they were purely taking a shot in the dark. There was no one sure Beckwith was a college level player when he was a freshman. It's just something kids say to recruiting sites. Very few of these kids had sincere interest from Bama or offers from Bama before LSU. It's just talk.

LSU will be fine in LA. No need to panic or lose hope. We have 1 percieved bad year instate and people think LA is going to be raided like the '90s. Not going to happen. We've lost at least 1 kid we wanted every year aside from the PP7 class. Nothing really new. No one gets every kid they want in their state. Relax. Also don't believe everything you see or read in recruiting. Recruiting info is based primarily on rumors and speculation. Very few complete truths in recruiting even when it's straight from the kids mouths.

That's why OOS recruiting is vital to LSU's success.

It is absolutely vital for LSU to recruit out of state to be a top tier program.
So we will disagree on that point.

quote:

. I don't think we should cede the state.
That has absolutely nothing to do with what I posted.
My point was if Bama wants to rob Louisiana, then LSU will do likewise in other states.
The sad part is so many kids in Louisiana are taken in by him, while top recruits in other states see LSU as the better program.
Makes me wonder if some of these coaches aren't influencing these kids, like some of the fans here that worship Saban.
I can't see how going to Bama is in any way more beneficial to a Louisiana recruit than staying at LSU.
If there's something I'm not seeing here then please explain it without some theoretical Saban worship.

Considering he was their QB in his freshman year and is now being recruited as a DE/LB, I would say that is definitely true

you guys are to obsessed with bama. the concern I have is about LSU recruiting capabilities.

consider the following.
1. this year we are going hard in Texas. we should have been doing this always. when is the last time we went hard after a Top end Texas player. not since shep.

2. last year we lost 4 la. players with a LSU offer (bourque, davis, collins, devall) to 3 different teams.

3. last year hawkins, davis, phillips, collins, devall, bourque committed to 5 different schools
this is an LSU recruiting problem and its not all about bama.

4. our record for the past 2 seasons is 24-3 which is best in college and we are ranked #1 preseason for 2012. how can you not recruit well.

5. only wilson and haley attempt to recruit the top national players. haley went after jernigan and the dt from texas this year. i don't think cooper, stud, ensminger have ever gone after a top 10 oos players at the position they coach.

the concerns we have should be focused on LSU not bama. they are not the reason we didn't get kiel, miller, patterson, davis etc. we are the reason.

Cadello has it right....if top instate recruits want worship at the Bama (or any other school) altar, then we just go get an OOS recruit at the same position equal or better than that LA player.

I agree that some HS coaches here in LA are probably influenced by other schools. Until these HS coaches are young enough to be brought up in modern LSU success era, this will be the case.

I think in the future, this obsession with Bama with LA recruits will subside, as Bama goes harder nationally for recruits. They really don't need LA anymore. Of course they'll consider our top 5 players, but all these lower ranked LA players who feel all good about getting a Bama letterhead, they're not going to be going to Alabama. Remember this year, Bama has offered over 3 times the amount of available scholarships. 2 of 3 won't be wearing crimson.

And as LSU goes OOS more and more itself (like Texas), they'll see players in the next tier better than the LA kids, and if middle of the road LA recruit even mentions or tweets favorable to Bama, eventually we won't even offer them.

LSU shouldn't play games with these LA recruits. Go positive and hard early after them, and if they don't want to be a part of LSU Football and want to tweet favoring other schools over us, go OOS to get better players.

I am starting to get really worried about our Louisiana kids going out of state. It seems like more and more top prospects want to look around and don't seem to be LSU fans.

Heres a Tim Williams quote from another article

“Both of the visits were similar,” he said. “They took us on the campus, took us through the athletic and academic facilities and I met with the coaches and received my offer. I really liked the atmosphere at Alabama and LSU. I grew up around LSU football. Both of those universities are good but I’m weighing everything out. LSU is ahead of Alabama right now, but I’m wide open in my recruiting.”

Also feeds my point that in recruiting there are very few complete truths even when it comes from the kids mouths. Too many people in these kid's ears and no way they can keep up with everything they say nor can we as readers know how leading the questions asked were or the context of the questions. All we get is quotes that are in the articles to make headlines or cater to fanbases. Most are very misleading.

Yes.

Also why "insiders" who rely only on info. Straight from the player's mouths shouldn't be trusted.

Either the writer rewrites the quotes in a way that favors the team they are writing for or a kid (like Avery last year) didn't want to upset any team so he always gave every school high remarks

Are you taking over the LSU Scout site when the current guys leave or are you already working for the LSU 24/7 site.

Thanks for the update. We'll all miss you when you go pro.
