We had three five star recruits in 2006. Keiland Williams, Jai Eugene and Al Woods. To be honest none of them ever made it close to their expectations.

Williams never got a chance. And no, I'm not one of those people who think he should have started over Scott. Porter just abandoned the RB by committee strategy when KW got here. Hester and Scott got almost all the carries.

Williams was big, fast, blocked well and was a good receiver. He was a complete back who never was the feature back. His main problem was Scott was just as good at all those things and Porter/Miles/Crowton all of a sudden stopped using multiple RBs a lot. (I think that might change under Frank Wilson)

He actually contributed, though.

5-star, #1 Rivals LB Chris Donald (2007)....now there's a bust.

We don't win the NC in '07 without him...

Demetrice Morley and Jonathan Crompton were ginormous busts.

Really, just about every 5 star Tennessee has landed since 2002 failed to live up to their potential...

Look at them:

Gerald Riggs #12 overall
Brandon Jeffries #19 overall
James Banks #30 overall
Jonathan Mapu #34 overall
Robert Meachem #20 overall
Demetrice Morley #21 overall
Eric Berry #3 overall
Chris Donald #18 overall
Ben Martin #20 overall

Besides Eric Berry, did a single one of those guys live up to their hype? Meachem and Riggs had moments, but enough to justify their rankings?

Meachem set the single-season receiving record at UT and was a 1st round pick....

Do you think our program faded for no reason? Talent not panning out is what has reduced us to where we are. Pretty sure we've had more 5*s than are listed since 02, majority of them major busts.

I knew he had one good year. Wasn't sure it was that good.

It was a spectacular year. It was good enough for him to forego his senior year and then get drafted in the first round.

Maybe, but LSU isn't 17-9 the next two years because of him. He put the QB position in a stranglehold for the past two years and it's terrible obvious on the field. Lot of people want to put the blame on Crowton and I agree for the most part. But the hole at QB doesn't help.

Double edged sword.
