Probably, because I'm willing to give a brand new coaching staff more than a few months to turn the program around significantly.

its amazing the cult heroes that somehow grow out of fans hating their old coach so much. Arkansas fans want Malzahn to be this god figure just to somehow say "I done told you we's had da best high school coach ever and he brought us Mustain, you big dummy Houston Nutt."

Ah...so Auburn has 3 running backs that will start this year that will start in their rookie years in the NFL? Gotcha I had no idea they were that loaded.

So whomever was the OC, they would have been given the award in '06? Even a coach fresh from HS? It was predetermined?

It's coincidence that he has set offensive records in 4 Arkansas HS classifications, the SEC, and the C-USA?

It's a sham that his reintroduction of the single wing swept colleges and the NFL like wildfire the past 3 years?

His 2 Rivals OC of the Year awards, in only 3 years of college coaching, are also a hoax?

Tell me, what more can a man do than set offensive records, lead national offensive categories, and win the highest awards given to his job title? We are talking about a man that has been in the college ranks for 3 years yet has a resume better than most vets.

The bottom line is he has proven to be one of the greatest OC's in the game right now and I fully expect Auburn to give people fits this year.

This is laughable. I guess Dennis Dunn would be a beast in the SEC since Evangel was unstoppable in high school. GIVE HIM A CHANCE!!! COME ON LSU, FIRE CROWTON!!!!

I'm not sure who you are talking to or about.

My posts in reference to Malzahn are based on personal interactions with him, following his career from almost a decade ago, and being a semi-lazy student of his offensive philosophy.

I do not think he should have his head cast in the Hall of Fame yet but as much as you can possibly ask from an OC, he has provided above and beyond.

Auburn has a future HC and dangerous offensive mind on their sidelines. There is no proof otherwise. The best that can be offered is speculative theories like "What if Darren McFadden was born paralyzed" or "What if Tulsa played in the NFL?".

You don't have to like him, or Auburn, but talking crap about him shows more ignorance and a desire to be naive than intellectual honesty.

Yes and no.

He was organizing and running the offense throughout the week and submitting plays for that weeks game to Nutt.

During the game Nutt would veto or give the go ahead to individual play calls but the "hurry-up, no-huddle" was never an option. This is yet another reason Nutt is now loathed at Arkansas.

Regardless, his reintroduction of the single-wing by way of the "Wildcat" was the most influential and revolutionary formation in quite some time and prompted McFadden and Jones onto All-American and Heisman runner up status.

The above was sufficient to bestow OC of the Year to Malzahn, his first of two.

He will be better than what AU has had the past 3-4 years....so I can understand the optimism in Auburn.

The biggest hurdle is getting some talent to compete w/ Saban and Bama......they are losing this battle for sure.

Hahaha, three pages of responses and not one comment comparing the success of Running backs at LSU and Auburn. I figured at least one person here would be delusional enough to try...oh well. That was a brilliant move though changing the subject to how many succesful running backs at Auburn these coaches have produced seeing as how they have never coached a game at Auburn.

Since you brought it up, here are Gus Malzhan (OC) and Curtis Lupers (RB coach) previous Running backs achievements:

Malzhan: 2006- Darren McFadden rushed for school-record 1,647 yards, the fifth best all-time in the SEC for single season yards, scored 14 touchdowns, and threw for three more touchdowns on just nine passing attempts, becoming a first-team All-American. McFadden also attained a new career high for yards in a single game in his 219 yard performance in a 26–20 win against USC. On December 6, 2006, McFadden was named one of three finalists for the Heisman trophy placing second with 1,662 points, behind Smith (1750 points). On December 7, 2006, McFadden became the first sophomore to win the Doak Walker Award, given annually to the nation's top running back.
Felix jones-Jones rushed for 1,168 yards and scored 6 touchdowns on only 154 carries, and averaged an impressive 7.6 yards per carry. Felix was also an all-American kickoff returner and had one TD on a 100-yard kickoff return against Ole Miss, and caught 15 passes for 107 yards and 3 touchdowns. With Jones alongside McFadden, 2006 was the first time in University of Arkansas history that two different running backs rushed for more than 1,000 yards in the same season. Felix was named 1st Team SEC by the conference's coaches, and 2nd Team SEC by the media.
Tulsa: 2007- Tarrion adams Played in all 14 games and had six starts . . . had six 100+ rushing games . . . had 1,225 yards and eight TDs rushing, and caught 30 passes for 301 yards and three touchdowns . . . ended the season ranked fourth on the school's single-season rushing chart
2008-Tulsa ranked 5th nationally in rushing, Tarrion adams had 1,523 yards on 247 carries (6.2 per carry) and 14 TDs. Jammad Williams had 523 yards on 86 carries (6.1) and 3 Tds.

Luper: In his first season on the Oklahoma State staff, one of his running backs, Mike Hamilton, rushed for a school freshman season record of 961 yards and was named the Big 12 offensive newcomer of the year. The 2006 season saw Luper tutor a trio of OSU running backs (Hamilton, Dantrell Savage and Keith Toston) to 2,000 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns. He also coach back-to-back 1,000 yard rushers, with Dantrell Savage rushing for 1,272 yards in 2007 and Kendall Hunter rushing for 1,555 yards in 2008. Under Luper, Oklahoma State's running attack led the Big 12 Conference in rushing for 3 consecutive seasons (2006-2008). The Cowboys finished the 2006 season ranked seventh nationally in rushing[3], eighth nationally in 2007[4] and seventh nationally again in 2008 (averaging 256 yards per game).
