He said that he gets asked a lot if he were an elite recruit why he would choose LSU. Here is his response. I loved it and thought it was spot on.

quote:

Why? Because I grew up in Louisiana as a Tiger Fan, and it would mean something to me to represent my state and play where my friends and relatives could come out and watch me. Plus, I would recognize the great success LSU has had in getting players to the NFL. I would also realize that if I decided to have a post-football career in Louisiana, having played for LSU could provide opportunities that I might not otherwise have. And then there's the reason that LSU commit/signee Brandon Harris gave – that when he succeeds and reaches Hall of Fame status, he wants to be in the Louisiana Hall of Fame, not in some other state’s Hall of Fame. (You’ve gotta love the way this young man thinks!) I guess it comes down to having pride in where you come from. Now, if I wasn’t from Louisiana, some of those reasons would not apply, but I would still recognize the great football tradition, the NFL pipeline, the world-class educational opportunity, the outstanding facilities, and the Tiger Stadium Game Day atmosphere that’s second to none. And that's not even mentioning the fact that I truly believe the combination of Head Coach Les Miles, Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron and Defensive Coordinator John Chavis is as good as you’ll find in the business. Just my two cents.

Should have never posted this on his website. Stupid question. Negative connotation.

I loved it. I'm from Louisiana as well and I have said in the past the same things that Scott listed in his response. I always felt the same way. If I was an elite athlete FROM LOUISIANA I couldn't imagine playing for anyone but LSU

Mr. Long does a great job of reporting on LSU, and we are lucky to have such a resource!

Unless there was a Curley Hallman-type regime at the helm, LSU offers much more than any other school for Louisiana recruits.

There are many factors to choosing an out-of-state college program, but I think the most overrated one is to go to a school because of the current head coach (they can leave before you even arrive to campus). I think all recruits must ask themselves if they would choose the school if the current coaching staff announced they would not be there next year. If you can still answer "yes" then it's probably the best choice for them to go there. Otherwise, they need to reassess.

It is a double edge sword though. What do you tell the guys from Texas, Florida, California, or the other states. I agree it would be a dream come true to play for my home state.

Scott also addressed reasons for non-Louisiana folks as well:
quote:

Now, if I wasn’t from Louisiana, some of those reasons would not apply, but I would still recognize the great football tradition, the NFL pipeline, the world-class educational opportunity, the outstanding facilities, and the Tiger Stadium Game Day atmosphere that’s second to none. From Dandy Don:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
There’s another recruiting-related questions I've been asked a handful of times lately that I want to go ahead and publicly address. The question has various forms, but usually goes something like this:
Let’s be honest, Scott. If you were a highly-recruited elite player who could go anywhere in the country, would you really choose LSU?”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where does the hypothetical question imply the kid is from La.?

He gave responses to what it would mean if you were an elite recruit from Louisiana or if you were an elite recruit NOT from Louisiana.
