Sports Illustrated - One man who isn’t surprised that Kelly could draw up such a play is Saban himself. One of Saban’s dearest friends, Lenny Lemoine, a Baton Rouge businessman and LSU booster, spent last weekend with the coach to celebrate his birthday. The two talked about the Tigers’ new football coach.

“He told me that he thinks Brian is one of the last great tacticians in the game,” Lemoine said.

TTT - Nick Saban sells La. recruits on one thing, that Bama is better for their careers than LSU. But based on Saban's own words, that is not true!

.

For the average HS FB recruit, up until last year Nick Saban was probably correct

That's why Saban is gonna have to hang 'em up soon. If he can't out-recruit LSU and he can't out scheme LSU, he can't beat LSU consistently. With Georgia in the East, there are now 2 more monsters in the SEC with Bama, and Tennessee looks like they're capable too. Saban created his own destruction, and I'm sure he'd have it no other way.

I’m assuming he’d also include Kirby on that list. To a lesser extent, Luke Fickell, who’ll be in that company when he gets that Ohio State gig down the line with amazing resources. Dudes like Riley at USC or Kiffin are more so offensive minds who can’t truly have it both ways on the O and D. Kelly, Kirby, to a lesser extent, Fickell, are dudes who build programs and get high character players and coach the game as it should be, through the trenches, smash mouth football. Kelly is a master in his craft and more folk should try to replicate his habits.

Every week that goes by, Saban looks more and more tired.

So last year Saban lied to them?

Kirby isn’t a great tactician, exceptional recruiter who now has elite coordinators on both sides. 2019 he was still heavy I formation pro style with Fromm. He adjusted with Monken.

He’s much better than Miles or O, but will go as far as his coordinator hires take him.

Kirby is not a great tactician.

Interesting, whom along with Kelly would you put in that conversation? If anyone really? Harbaugh?

Hold Day in higher regard than Harbaugh and Kirby as a tactician? He’s fell flat quite often and he’s just got the defense in order this season due to Knowles hire. Either way he’ll likely be bound for the NFL and Fickell will take over, which would make Ohio State much scarier

If you think about it, the only thing that was missing was the players to beat Saban. He lost twice to him while at Notre Dame and his recruits. He came to LSU to be in the big games but also have the horses to compete. The big difference is that CBK doesn’t even have a team full of his recruits yet!! He did this with mostly transfers, players from O era. The future is looking brighter!!

On “Locked onBama” podcast it was noted that Bryce Young will never play in a national title game, with a Bama fan suggesting his talent was wasted.

Kelly knocked Bama out of the playoffs, if Coach Kelly can do that with Daniels and a bunch of transfers, LSU is the place to be, not Bama!

I just don’t understand why a big LSU booster would want to be friends with him?
