I am watching the game again and I am tremendously impressed with him. But I think his strength is in his legs and he will have a better chance of going pro if he plays that Harvin/Desean Jackson role. Super fast kid with heart and leadership.

1) on the first series he missed some dump offs or check downs that would have went for 15 plus yards. He held the ball too long and was sacked.

2) Jarvis Jiles dropped a screens pass that would have went far and on the next play. Sheps holds the ball too long and Sam I am Montgomery causes the fumble which turns into 7 for the White.

3) Because he is not a true passer he lost playing time laste in the game becuase they were behind and the coach played Gilbert to try to air the ball out.

As far as QB play goes Barkley was light years ahead of any QB I seen this weekend except Zach Mettenberger in the O-D bowl and Tajh Boyd in the AAA game.

He threw both the picks.

Don't get me wrong, he had his moments... but it wasn't exactly a world beater performance.

Obviously he's not a fine tuned passer... he's got to learn how to play quarterback, not just a RB who throws occasionally, which is what he was in HS. But that comes with better coaching...

It looked like he was trying to prove to everyone that he could throw...he had plenty of opportunities to run but he passed them up which led to some sacks and knockdowns

Not worried about Shep

Shepard needs to be developed as a passer no doubt but he can make an immediate impact from the QB spot starting (not starting in the sense of beating out JJ, but as in coming in next year) next year. He is the perfect guy to take hits away from Jefferson and throw in a few passes here and there. I hope we use him like we did Perrilloux in 2007 except I think Shepard has the chance to be much more of a game breaker. He looks like he throws well on the run.

Man I love Shep dont get me wrong but he was 1-5 that was his only completion. He held the ball wat too long for that reason of him trying to prove something.

When you line up for a college team things will be totally different. Defenses will play different and I think he will make them use different coverages that will open the passing game up.

RP was a better passer than Shep is at this point.

I don't see Shep beating JJ for the job next year. JJ has shown himself to be a very confident, able QB. He got better every game he played. Im sure he will start.

Shepard completed 2 passes. The 92 yard TD and the ~15 yard out on the run. Don't know how many passes he threw total (6? 7?) but on 2 of his passes he was hit as he threw it and another one was dropped by the RB.

He had 2 completions, and the RB dropped his 3rd. 3/6 should have been his total, with more yards (the RB drop) and 1 TD passing.

I just edited to clarify what I meant. I mean coming in next year he could make an immediate impact at QB. Not starting in front of J.J....but as I explained being the change of pace guy like Perrilloux was in 2007.

Yeah youre right. He did go over 100 yards passing. They pulled him after that pass. Where can we go to get the final stats.

So did every QB in an all star game. I am not saying Shep was bad I am just saying he wasnt the best QB. I love the kid. very excited about him. i just think he would be a waste behind Jefferson for 3 years waiting to start.(barring no injuries or draft)

Where do you see Pat white being drafted this year?

Watching Shep play in his high school games on espn, he showed he was a very effective passer. He did not look down targets as he did today and his decisions to run were well placed. He is number 1 at his position for a reason. He is the perfect QB to play in Crowton offence. Although it would be nice to have him on the field immediately, i think its suits lsu best to red shirt him for his freshman year and have someone special at QB for 5 straight years. And if JJ gets hurt then we can decide to work Shep in.

Thats my point right there.

Can Shep beat out JJ at QB this year? I dont see it happening.

I think JJ showing out against Ga Tech may have pushed Debose away. he realized that he would be second fiddle to Shep and that the QB spot is locked for 3 more years.

I can live with that but Shep has said that he doesnt want to red shirt. I ask you the same question do you feel as though Shep is a better QB than Jefferson?

Not now, but the spring may change things, although not likely. JJ showed his leadership ability and his fight to be a winner. Shep is special but still needs coaching.

Maybe, maybe not. Who exactly do you see backing up Jefferson if he wins the job? That GT game was 1 game & he had a month to prepare for it.

Shep probably won't redshirt. He touched the ball 10 times or less & it resulted in 2 TDs, that is a fact. He had the best moves on Offense of any player out there & you can't coach that.
