Gerald Willi and Speedy Noil did very well and got themselves invited to the Rivals 5* challenge. Noil also won the Skills player award. Seems to be getting that at every camp or showcase he attends

Davon Godchaux, who Ive said for a while might be our most underr ated player at the moment, also got an invite. He also won the defensive line MVP award. Sounds like he will be moving up soon. Also said:

quote:

Godchaux added that he was happy with his overall ranking of No. 208 in the Rivals250 but said the invitation to play against players ranked ahead of him is what is motivating him to participate in the Rivals Five-Star Challenge. "I don't know if Da'Shawn Hand or Andrew Brown are better than me," he said. "I want to see them up close and see what they have and what I have."

Love the attitude. We need to give the kid an offer. Im sure we will, but I think he would commit on the spot if we offer.

All 3 did extremely well.

Talent was never the question for Godchaux his offer has always been there when he gets his grades right.

Yea I know, but its not like we have never offered a guy that hasnt qualified before.

And by under rated I was simply talking about his recruiting sites rankings. Usually right around 200 mark. I think hes a top 100 player no doubt.

The staff is trying to cut down on that especially with in state guys IMO. And with this class every scholly and spot in this class is precious.

And godchaux is the second best DL in the state after willis for sure. He's top 85 to me.

This is very true. I still would want to keep a spot open for him though. He is def worth it, talent wise.

If he fails to qualify, I would still like to sign and place him. Seems to be too good to let someone else get the jump on him.

I wish we recruited a OL with the nickname speedy. Would be pretty cool. Or just give that nickname to Mett.

When you look at all the footwork drills QB's do, I cannot picture Mett doing them. I would imagine he'd look pretty bad doing them, also.

Louisiana locks down Houston, Five-Star invites
With nearly 200 players in attendance, the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Amour gave many of the top players in the region an opportunity to play their way into the Rivals Five-Star Challenge.

Two of the top players from Louisiana took full advantage.

Teammates Gerald Willis III and Speedy Noil of New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr took home invitations from the camp.

Rivals.com regional analyst Jason Howell said the pair showed the analyst team exactly what he anticipated entering the event.

"Willis is a highly productive player on the field," Howell said. "He is also a known commodity. He is high-energy with a good motor. He can play the run or get after the quarterback and at his size he can slide inside and play tackle if needed.

"Speedy is exactly what his name implies. It is all speed and quickness. What has really helped elevate his game is that he is playing quarterback at Karr and so he has a more complete knowledge of the offense because he knows where the receivers are supposed to be and then he can apply that to his game."

La Porte (Texas) High linebacker Hoza Scott arrived late to the camp but made it in time for one-on-one competition in the afternoon and showcased his ability in coverage.

The four-star Texas A&M commit checked in at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds and looked like he was in great physical condition in earning his red envelope to the elite event.

Davon's desire
Four-star defensive lineman Davon Godchaux entered the Houston stop of the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour with the goal of earning an invitation to this summer's Rivals Five-Star Challenge.

He did just that, and also took home the defensive line MVP award.

"I think I did a good job today," he said. "I wanted to put it in God's hands and I knew it would be taken care of."

Awesome to hear. They are similar players too. Fast enough to play DE but have the size to move inside if need be. What impressed you about Godchaux? I know a lot about him just curious to see how he looked.

Did Fournette not compete? How was he not mentioned for any awards or in the La update?

He competed and looked great. Not sure if he won any awards or anything. I can't find a results page or anything. And I'm not sure how long the showcase went on for or if it was just 1 day, but LF did take a trip to Alabama so not sure if he cut his showcase short or what.

They only give a Skill Position Award, which Speedy won.
You have that backwards, LF had a short visit to the "greatest person in the country" and was at the Combine for it's entirety.
