Wow

I apologize for placing any blame on TJ

What a POS. Ricardo knew damn well that his accusation implied that TJ was a lazy recruiter.

'm just trying to figure out his motivation for making comments that are obviously not true. That's the fishy part.

Exactly!

Why make those comments (Gathers)calling out a coach who has seen you more than any other coach???

Something in play here we not seeing or I'm not seeing.

Just comes across as a cheap shot that TJ didn't need at this time.

This is such a bizarre story. It seems clear that Coach Johnson gave this kid plenty of attention. It makes me wonder if he was expecting something more than personal visits and phone calls ...

Obviously Gathers (and/or his family) is a potential headache, but does this really excuse Trent from only going to one game? Unless he got indications that this was inevitable I still wish he would have recruited Gathers harder.

North Carolina is a great basketball program. Kansas is a great basketball program.

Baylor is a johnny-come-lately that in 10 years, people will try to figure out how they ever accomplished what they did.... like Minnesota did in the 90s.

"Great"

Actually, we know how Minnesota succeeded*, and my guess is Baylor is succeeding in the same manner.

he's coaching, in season, he has 2-3 days between most games, i'm sure its hard to go watch recruits more than once or twice in season....with that said, the more I hear about this story, the more it seems like Gathers wanted money from LSU, TJ said no, Gathers gets mad and does this interview where he bashes Trent

what sticks out to me is that gathers obviously has relationships with several players on the team not to mention malik morgan who already signed.

why shite all over their coach like that with those comments? he talks of his relationship with brent scott and we all know trent's seat is pretty warm, now you're pouring gasoline on it.

Some of you peeps owe Trent an apology.....not saying we shouldn't find a better coach/recruiter, but he definately recruited Rico harder than anyone else.

That myth will repeated over and over again on this site. You know it and I know it.

He saw him one time or he saw him a million times in the long run he still lost him to Baylor.

There are two levels of criticism here:

1. He lost a top in state recruit.
2. He lost a top in state recruit because he's lazy and didn't work hard.

1 is definitely true and he deserves whatever he gets.

2? That's up for debate.

"Trent lived over here. He was constantly in our gym and at our practices and our games over Ricardo's sophomore and junior years. Ricardo and I and the school developed a really good relationship with Trent really as soon as Trent got the LSU job. LSU has really been super active in recruiting Ricardo. It was crazy the number of games Trent saw Ricardo play over the summer and with us. It was a ton of games."

That's from Gathers HS coach.

Seems like a lot of time/effort/love to me, but then I'm not 18 and use to attention.

Bottom line, he's not coming to LSU, I guess, and that's on TJ.

Still, Gathers remarks seem uncalled for and a cheap shot to take and makes me wonder why.

Agree but I think there's some credence to what Gathers said about him not going to his games and it wasn't necessarily laziness but more misreading the situation. Gathers' harsh tone can be chalked up to him repeating what Drew told him IMO.

It's not laziness or misreading the situation. It's a kid who either lied or was lied to.

No if Trent only went to one game this season, which Gathers' coach confirms, that's a problem. I think he thought Scott had it under control and obviously he didn't.

Gathers bitched that Trent only went to one game this season as an exmple of how Trent has not recruited him hard enough. Low and behold, Drew only went to one game this season, too. So why does that work against Trent but not Drew?

Come on wouldn't I have to work harder to get a girl than Brad Pitt would? Drew's team is ranked in the top ten while Trent is trying to win him over to play for a team that's below .500 over their last three years. Not to mention the drive from BR to Riverside Academy is a lot less than it is from Waco.

I dont think the ranking matters, playing time is what he cares about.
