Again, this is how sports and athletes are discussed in every other sport. It is not personal, and I Personally have given credit to Christina and Bridget and Sami on bars (most people do, the biggest gripe consistently is Sami on beam, but thankfully that experiment seems to finally be over). However, when you look at the body of work from
That class as a whole, going all the way back to their first two years, they have never put up the consistency and scores that others on big name teams do. It just is what it is. It’s sports - fans will discuss it and call it out.

Fair on Desiderio. Desiderio has risen to the occasion and delivered when called upon. Edwards and Dean have done what has been asked of them, too.
Durante now has one job, and she has imploded on bars the last 2 seasons when we needed her most. Unfortunately, she is unreliable. At this stage, I would rather Finnegan or AJ get bar reps and regionals experience under their belt than a 5th year senior who is going to give a fall at worst or a 9.85 at best

The gymnasts needed more exhibition routines, if only to gain experience. Jay failed at that. That falls solely on him. Forget the fact that he said it kills the momentum. Oh well. Find a way to get it back!
I’m not even mad at the outcome of the meet. Just disappointed for the gymnasts. I don’t think they’ve been put in the best situations to get the best scores all season. No way should Kiya be the lead off on bars. Just think the coaches should have gone back to the drawing board much earlier in the season.

I really do think it’s lineup selections. Sami did so much better and was more consistent at lead off. I would swap her and Johnson for sure. They need their toughness to come back. They are a talented group

I agree. Athletes always get critiqued it goes with the territory but that group is alway linked together. I don’t hear anyone say the sophomores or the freshmen I just don’t think that’s fair. And the other person now blamed leadership on them not just gymnastics. And if anyone in here has any questions on leadership look to the top. The program at this meet has team pictures. Well 7 of the 8 teams had a team picture LSU had a picture of just kiya Haleigh and Kai !
Posted on 3/19/22 at 10:09 pm to gymfan517
That may be true, with regards to grouping. But I also see better output with respect to those groups as a whole (despite, say, that some of the juniors for example (nibs, and Rau are unlikely to ever compete, or
Compete again) - and maybe it’s because haleigh and kiya carry those groups and KJ and Aleah have been standouts as freshmen (though I think
If hah had let them they could have done more)
I wasn’t at the meet so didn’t see a program. So I am curious - do you think LSU purposely didn’t submit a team picture? Is there something going on internally that is causing this? I don’t have any inside info, but you seem like you might, so please share!

I don’t have any info. I was at the meet and saw the program and was appalled. I think that just shows that leadership doesn’t see them as a team it’s a shame

Leadership, mental toughness and that dominance factor has been missing since Finnegan/ Kelley/Cannamela/Priessman graduated
This team has talent but for some reason there is a void and it’s not matching up what we should be seeing on paper

Oh goodness. Well I hope it was a misunderstanding rather than intentional.

Absolutely agree. But leadership on the team has to be backed up by the coaches and that’s what I think is missing. Just my opinion.

Very sad performance today, but this is the result we deserved.
Seems to me this team has a lack of leadership, which says a lot because all year this "Super" Senior leadership group has been championed and all that.
How many big meets can happen when they show up and are not focused?
It's also on the coaching staff. However, you can't fire Jay no matter how stubborn he is, how mediocre of a coach he is, and how poor of a line-up manager he is. If you fire Jay, we risk losing commits. If we lose the commits, we risk going back to being what we were before he got here and started getting us talent. While we have the best facilities and all of that, I don't think we are quite at that level where LSU Gym recruits itself. He is one hell of a recruiter and the truth is that most girls are coming to play for him.
If you fire him, you risk losing Konnor and she could very well be an Olympic Gold Medalist by the time she gets on campus.
Don’t like results. Fire coach!!!!!! Can this board be more predictabl?. Nevermind that you contradicted yourself the entire post. Yes getting good players is a huge part of coaching. Every coach in every sport will tell you that

As someone said a couple weeks ago coaches can only put their athletes in the best position. It’s on the athletes to be self motivated. It has been upsetting the last few seasons. To lose Ewing, Gnat, Zamardi and then Hambrick and Macadaeg. Then arguably the best class in history in Priessman, Finnegan and Kelley. That’s a lot to lose in 3 years . It’s obviously a lack of leadership and self motivation. U basically still have Durante , Dean and Campbell who were on those same teams. Jay Clark has helped LSU so much since joining the program but it’s a different beast when your the head of the program. No more DD, Bob Moore or Ack. It’s disappointing to see bad unmotivated results but I think time will tell if we have the right formula to continue on as a top program. Hey does anyone think DD will come back as a volunteer like Suzanne did at Georgia? Something is definitely lacking with the program. I thought having seniors for a 5th year was a benefit. Other than Christina, I haven’t been impressed and progress should definitely have been made for the younger athletes to get much needed experience. It goes back to the lack of mental toughness and this team has been lacking that.

And I said all that to say, yes it’s disappointing to see the teams struggle, but I’ve been a supporter since the 90’s when LSU only had 2000 people at meets, not the top recruits and DD giving out tickets at the local Winn-Dixie. I’ll always want the best for the program born and raised in Baton Rouge and loving the sport of gymnastics will never change my support for LSU gymnastics. But as a fan and supporter, a lot of groups on fb, forums, etc are critical of most teams in NCAA. If we can’t be honest and voice concerns, we can’t get mad when we see post about LSU in regards to the gymnastics. Now the personal things said about the athletes are not right.I’ve always believed if your not being discussed your not relevant.

Jay Clark's response
Quote: BIRMINGHAM –
“There was nothing glaring today or in warmups that indicated this performance was coming,” head coach Jay Clark said. “We were pressing too much and could not settle it down. It snowballed on us, and we could not regain our composure. There is no doubt that it was disappointing.
“We know this is not the end though. We have four more weeks, and we have to get back in the gym and process what happened and fix it. A lot of our goals are still in front of us. I still believe in this team, but we have to reassess everything and use these weeks off to reboot and get it right.”

Regionals
Oklahoma: Oklahoma, Minnesota, Cal, Arizona State
Auburn: Florida, Auburn, Kentucky, Denver
NC State: Michigan, LSU, Missouri, UCLA
Washington: Utah, Alabama, Michigan State, Oregon State

The raw talent is 100% there in this team. They definitely have the ability to win although they are taking a more difficult path this season with the regionals they have seeded into.
Looking at their early season performances they were more focused as a team and on track to take the trophy.
Honestly, I think the biggest mistake in the season was taking Alexis Jeffrey as a transfer. It was right after that the team seemed to lose focus and it cascaded. It definitely took the teams attention off where they need to be and added unecessary drama for a team member that has done only one exhibition and has yet to contribute to the scores. I worry that despite the team vote, her walking on the team has lowered morale and lead to a less cohesive team. The second and third biggest mistakes were not pushing for more event exhibitions/ depth testing through out the year and pursuing with Durante on beam.
Focus, mental resilience and team cohesiveness is hopefully what they can focus on over the next 4 weeks. I believe that they can turn it around by then.
As for Jay, it's early days. He is definitely a great recruiter and bars/vault coach. He is still growing into the head coach role and that may take time. I definitely don't see Tigers current situation to be anything like Georgia's Courtney Kupets head coach conundrum that they have right now.

Are the girls at NC State or UNC for regionals?
Posted on 3/20/22 at 10:36 am to lsugymfann
According to the Balance Beam Situation it appears to be NC State. We will find out for sure tomorrow when regionals are announced.

To showcase the issues with consistency and injuries, we only have All Americans on vault and bars. No one on beam, floor or in the all around.
Posted on 3/20/22 at 3:49 pm to BigB0882
Not surprising no AA on Floor.
This was probably the worst floor year we've had in quite some time.
Even just from a choreography standpoint, the routines lacked the soul LSU floor routines usually had.
