Here is a link to the College Gym News 2020 Predictions. LSU is not picked to finish first or second. They did get one 3rd place and two 4th place votes to make the Final Four.

CGN 2020 Predictions

Looks like the only consensus for LSU is that Kiya will be the Freshman of the Year. Edney did get one vote for Gymnast of the Year.

Hopefully our girls will be a pleasant surprise in the long run. I have never been a fan of CGN's predictions since they have somewhat of a bias. I do think Kyla and Maggie will receive most of the major honors for the season. Looking forward to Friday night in the PMAC. Geaux Tigers!

I have always been a fan of Kyla. But I’m hoping Edney and Korth have stellar seasons this year.

And I’m also looking forward to watching the meet Friday night! I can only watch past meets on YouTube for so long.

I had them both in my top 5. I’m hoping for at least one of them. I’m also hoping for Wojcik, Ramler, and Brooks.

I got Kiya and Alyona on my fantasy team! I also got Shallon Olsen and Lexi Graber (Alabama), Ak Subject (Denver), and Adrienne Randall (Utah). That’s about all I can be excited about. I’m not too familiar with the others (especially the randoms) on my team.

Damn not feeling good about my team... I didn’t get anyone from LSU, Florida or UCLA, and only a freshman from Oklahoma. Here’s to hoping that Sabrina Vega has a killer year ??

Sounds like Alyona is in the running for both bars and beam lineup spots based on their intrasquad today. She is really so far ahead of where I expected her to be at this point. We need to find those 10.0 vaults.

Alyona is way ahead of schedule. She will be in on beam at some point. its a matter of her getting reps and polishing up again. LSU has 5 10.0 vaults between Kai, Kiya, Edney, Ruby and Edwards but we may not see full difficulty until later on. Ryan is someone we need to continue to step up.

We are going to learn a whole lot about this team over the next 4 meets. Talk about getting thrown into the deep end of a tough SEC schedule, as a freshman, this early in the season.

This meet should give them motivation in practice for the next week. Going to Georgia is no easy task, even with Dickson out. I attribute this meet to jitters and the holidays.

Lowest score in 6 years. The talent is absolutely there but DD has her work cut out for her. Should be an interesting year.

We had no business being #2. The senior class last year carried the team with big scores and we are essentially asking our freshmen to step in and pretty much carry that production. Our juniors with the exception of Campbell do not produce big scores consistently. There is also a void with no production from the sophomore class..

Vault: Kai,Kiya, Edwards, Ruby and Edney are every day vaulters. Nibbs is not. We desperately need Ryan to get in on this event. She was expected to produce on vault for us. Kiya's vault is superb. Kai had a big vault but has to find the landings, which usually takes time to start the year

Bars: Personally, the coaches dropped the ball putting 3 true freshmen in a row to start the event. Ruby is not an anchor either.... Alyona had grip problems, then let nerves destroy the rest of the routine. Kai lets Alyona's fall get to her. Just wasn't smart coaching to me.

Beam: Biggest disappointment of the night. The juniors fell apart with the exception of Campbell. Kiya had a superb beam set until the punch front (which to me is a very risky skill to. have). I know. its the first meet but was expecting more.

Floor: Best event of the night. We held back Desiderio and Kai. Not a fan of doing double tucks for all the dismounts on this event.

We have a lot of work to do. The freshmen are going to be really good but its going. to take time for them. Was expecting more from Edney tonight, I was disappointed. Kiya is the best gymnast on the team IMO, she is big time.

Who can we realistically expect to score 9.90 and above on a regular basis? Campbell, Edney, Johnson. Anyone else? In years past, 9.80’s were disappointing. Tonight we were relieved to see a 9.80. Is it just early in the season?

My opinions on tonight’s meet....

First meet jitters! A lot of hesitations, especially on bars and beam.

Vault
Vault is certainly a work in progress. We could use Ryan on vault. She has a really nice full. Landings should be better later on.

Bars
I feel Alyona wasn’t quite ready. Probably would’ve waited until maybe the second home meet. Kai had a few uncharacteristic mistakes that I’ve never seen her make before. And the bars lineup order was a little weird. At this point I feel you let Durante anchor until Alyona gets stronger. And maybe move Kai to the lead off (for now) and move Kiya down a little.

Beam
Two falls was a fluke. I don’t see Durante or Kiya falling again, although I feel maybe they should remove the front tuck from Kiya’s routine. Thank God for Kennedi & Reagan! Reagan is gonna get a 10 this year!

Floor
Edwards really surprised me, and she should be the SEC specialist of the week. Kiya deserved the 9.95! I also feel that Kiya should be the floor anchor. Kennedi is just not consistent enough on the double Arabian. This is also a lineup that needs Kai. A lot of the routines lack personality, and Kai has a lot of it. I’m interested to see who will replace Gunter in the lineup soon.

Overall the results don’t really alarm me. But I would say burn the tape of this meet.

Yeah I didn’t like the fact that the bars lineup started with 3 freshmen. I was kinda freaked out when I saw the lineup order. I think Alyona needs more time. With the holidays just ending, I left maybe they should’ve held her out at least until the 3rd week.

Also, the juniors did indeed have an up and down meet. Sarah was good on her two events, but Durante, Dean, Desiderio, and Gunter all dropped the ball. Campbell was great on beam but faltered on floor. I feel if you’re only going to do one event, it needs to be event title worthy. We definitely didn’t see that tonight. But I have no doubt that this team will get better. Last year started the same and we all know how it ended.
