Dude has killed it at Memphis. I remember this board liking his game a lot and wishing he would’ve made it into that class.

He was committed here for a minute

More than likely it was grades

In the first video in his 247 profile, he talks about going against Kristian Fulton at LSU’s camp and getting his offer after he won that 1 on 1 battle. I think it must’ve been grades, because it seems like we wanted him and he wanted to be here. But congrats to the kid on an awesome college career—hope he has success in the NFL.

Pretty sure it was grades. I think he was headed for JUCO to eventually make it here but Norvell convinced him to flip to Memphis because he would qualify there and be able to play FBS football right away. AAC entrance standards are a little lower.
It ended up being a good move for him because he was featured in an offense that was perfect for him for three years.

Coxie committed to LSU in 2015 LSU pulled his offer before NSD fearing Coxie would not qualify academically. Coach Norvel at Memphis kept in touch and believed in Damonte the whole time. After getting his grades in order, LSU had already filled their 2016 class. Damonte signed with Memphis and the rest is history. 3* WR that had SEC talent, just lacked the grades coming out of HS. DC is regarded by his coaches and peers as one of the best persons to come through the Memphis program
The story about his gloves and friendship with a 2-yr old Down Syndrome kid is very moving

The CA certainly paints it in a Memphis light. Im pretty sure they were able to get him qualified more easily because of the lower AAC standards.

This is typical for most Louisiana WRs. Trey Quinn went to SMU for one year and had over 1200 yards and 13 TDs. If I'm not mistaken, Stanley Morgan Jr is Nebraska's all time leader in receiving, receptions, and 2nd in TDs.
Wonder how much more Tyron Johnson would have improved at Okie St had he stayed there after having 850 yards and 7 TDs there last year.

I remember him well, and I really wanted him at LSU. Kid had tons of talent. He was a grades risk and ultimately didn't make it into the class as a result of that. So glad that he has still lit it up over at Memphis. I think he'll be a solid NFL #2 or #3 WR for a good while.

He probably should have stayed another year. He has already moved to 5 different practice squads this year

How about Jazz Fergurson out of St. Francisville. I think he has also made a showing on Sundays ...he is on the practice team in Seattle. Always liked that guys measurables

Not only did he perform on the field, he was equally as impressive off the field.
Befriended a young special needs child. Fans love the guy.

his brother Jaylon is a classic example of a "late bloomer" that just blows-up in college. Everybody (except LA Tech) missed out on Jaylon because he was an average 3* in HS. #49 ranked player in LA, #69 ranked WDE, and overall player ranking in the 1200's. Kid went on to become the CFB all-time career sack leader (45 sacks) and drafted in the 3rd rd by the Ravens.

Always pull hard for Louisiana kids in that situation

Absolutely, did a double take when I heard his name in the Memphis-Cincy game
