Regardless of what happens with Thomas and Meadows, this appears to be a great class

Nice to see that we didn't have any surprises today and more or less proves that while we're not in the Oregon, Texas, Michigan, OSU, etc. tier of $$, we're close enough to be relevant.

Pick up a QB and fill some gaps in the portal and we'll be in a good position the next couple years.

I noticed if you sort the On3 standings by average player rating, LSU is at #6. A few teams are ahead of us simply because they signed a few more players.

… just another way to measure things.

That's the true measure to me too-that is the average player ranking/points. And I take all the rankings with a grain of salt. These kids at this level, whether 2, 3, 4 or whatever star are really good athletes. The truest of tests becomes what's between the ears.

I think the positional ranking is less relevant than the grouping for everything other than bragging rights. The groupings will vary from year to year based on general talent levels and distribution amongst the teams.

If you are in the top 3-5 you are generally an elite class. The next grouping will start at the next ranked team (4-6) and could stop at 10 or as low as 15. Those will still be extremely high-level classes, borderline elite which may develop into elite teams or complement what you already have or get down the road. Then anything in the top 30 is still a very good class.

No one wants to drop from top 3 to 6-10 but it isn't catastrophic, it isn't even really bad, just not something you desire. High school to college is a crapshoot when deciding who will develop and live up to their potential or even who is correctly evaluated for their potential.

And that doesn't take into account all the other things that can derail a kid and a class. Just imagine the 2008-2009 LSU teams with Ryan Perriloux and then the 2010-2011 teams with Jordan Jefferson or Jarret Lee that were not thrust into a starting role way too early.

Those are just my semi-random thoughts, they may be pretty dumb. I have those from time to time (at least).
