LSU and Oregon could be battling it out until the end for the five-star athlete from Zephyrhills, Fla., as the Tigers might have the slight edge heading into his decision on July 17. Miami had been the front-runner for a long time – and Pickett even admitted the Hurricanes were the leader – but that has changed through June.

Where this could get interesting is if Miami has a phenomenal season and that could make Pickett take another look at the in-state program.

Auburn seemed to have an edge earlier in Vaughn’s recruitment but now the four teams to watch are Mississippi State, LSU, Arkansas and Ole Miss.

There has been some talk that the Rebels might have the edge now for the four-star DL from Madison (Miss.) Hartfield Academy but this could end up being an in-state battle between Ole Miss and the Bulldogs.

This article seems to paint a decent picture for LSU and Pickett.

Anyone hearing different?

I have zero info but have been paying attention to recruiting for a long time and for some reason Pickett strikes me as a guy that does like LSU but won't pick us. Whether its NIL, Family, or whatever else, I just feel like we finish second for this kid.

I do think we end up with Jaboree Antoine though.

It does seem that way. The only reason lsu got in the recruitment was him knowing Corey Raymond from Florida.

For some reason I think it will be Oregon.

A couple days ago, Wiltfong said that Oregon and Miami were the only schools worth watching for Pickett.

ETA: Here's his direct quote (from July 3rd) - "Miami has been a mainstay in [Pickett's] recruitment. Oregon is the one trending. Those are the only two I'm keeping an eye on."

I know he's some recruiting guru, but just because he says those are the two he's keeping his eyes on, doesn't mean we are out of it. Now i don't think we land him, but i like the double back options if he begins to dislike like the place he signs his NLI with. I remember Mascona doing an interview with Jardin Gilbert and he admitted that he screwed up going to TAMU.

I take that quote to mean that those are the only two schools willing to meet his asking price. I feel so cynical saying that but it does seem to be the new reality for the top rated guys.

I could see LSU pulling out the checkbook for Pickett. Raymond needs a win, and LSU absolutely has to land 1-2 solid DBs in this class.

I could too. He seems to have his head on his shoulders unlike some of these kids.

I think If the money is actually close lsu will have a shot.

What I have seen on X and IG Oregon has jumped into the mix. Seem to be a real threat to land him.

Oregon just paid $1.3M for a WR. I don't think LSU is dropping that kind of money on a guy that isn't a QB.

I think LSU sees the bigger picture (or I hope they do). Spend the big bucks on OL, DL, and QB. The other positions can be pieced together with mid level 4 stars and LA guys.

Or you could spend on QB, OL, DL, AND a dominant prospect at CB, S, LB, WR every now and then also. If you have the money why not spend it? Are we saving it just to give even more to the QBs and linemen of the world?

Sure. I agree and think LSU does as well.

We don't have the money like Oregon or others. Every recruit gets some NIL and mid level 4 stars cost money too. 5 stars just cost a lot more. We have to pick and choose who we go after with big money.

We saw this play out at A&M. Building a class on NIL alone doesn't work. Maybe Dan Lanning as a coach can handle it better than Jimbo could and it works out.
