it really isn't Alabama. before saban we outrecruited them a lot. nick saban is a damn rock star to high school athletes.

very true, but the Bama brand is pretty huge to get in the door. I'm not implying we're chopped liver, and we often beat them for kids, but they are still a bigger brand. Especially now with Saban there.

I haven't read the whole thread, but beating them in the recruiting rankings is always going to be tough. They either just play the ratings game better with their subcription sites, or the Bama bump is real. They have a lot of guys that never pan out but all seemed to be high 4 star can't miss guys when they signed.

well, way back when, rivals was owned by a bama guy so...

But anymore, it doesn't matter much. We get bumps too.

How many times did MSU finish ahead of LSU in the past 3 years?

Bigger question is how many LSU players left early for the NFL and how many players did MSU lose in the same span? Every few years the cycle can catch up with LSU vs MSU. Even then MSU did not finish the season that far ahead. Lets see what happens over the next four years.

BeBe & Steele may pull a surprise or 2 this cycle...but they will definitely make an impact on next years class. O's strength is in the relationships that he builds over time. He also understands that it's about more than just his relationship with the player. Personally...if they can't fill a definitive need, I hope that they save spots for next year.

Recruiting national titles are a joke.

Two points:

1) There is a pretty clear correlation between quality recruiting and winning football games. LINK

2) Mythical or not, the press that comes with winning a "Recruiting Title" creates a buzz among high school athletes. Success then begets success.

Alabama has won a lot of recruiting titles recently, and they have also won a lot of actual titles.

However, there is a legit beef from those that think the recruiting services have favored Alabama, especially early in their run (i.e. when Saban first arrived). The Barrett Jones example is probably the most famous (for those who don't know, Rivals moved him to a different position, one that he didn't play, to boost Alabama's points). Nowadays, I tend to think that they mostly earn their rankings, but there is also some laziness on the part of recruiting analysts that must be factored in (e.g. John Doe Recruit is being recruited by Alabama, he must be good, bump him up). LSU recruits benefit from the same laziness, but probably not to the same extent as Alabama.

Just my opinion on the subject.

They beat us once in 15 seasons. Recruits matter bro. Rankings aren't end all but I'd say anywhere in the top 10 is pretty damn strong. Especially if you a filling needs.

USC had some top heavy classes which netted high rankings. But not being able to take full classes is what hurt them on the field, but for the most part the rankings show a correlation to championships.

UF, FSU, Bama, Auburn, LSU, tOSU. All had top classes before winning titles. Doesn't have to be #1, but a few top 10 in a row can do it.

This something I would like to see. Take players that left early and re rank our classes. I'd have to assume that the classes would take a huge hit in the rankings considering some of the guys leaving early were highly ranked.

so now that Les has decided that he's going "all in" on recruiting, what kind of realistic bump can we expect?

We are too late this season...I am not expecting a big jump in the ratings- that will come next recruiting season.
