So lets say he plays both sports Football and Basketball. If LSU is at the 85 limit for team scholarships can he stay on the Basketball Scholarship and play football.

1. He’s not playing football
2. To answer that question alone no if you’re playing football and aren’t a walk on it’s a football scholarship you can’t get a player on a basketball scholarship and have him play football

Basketball: 13 scholarships
Football: 85 scholarships

You think will wade would give up 1/13 of his scholarships so O can add an 86 guy to the team?

Here's a longer reply. He didn't have a football offer from us. If he were to join the football team his first year, he'd count against our 25 signees, and we don't want that, so there's no way that he'd play football his first year at LSU.

If, after that, he wanted to play football, I'm sure he'd be allowed to try out for the team. If we had a spot available and Coach O thought that he was worthy of a scholarship, then he'd be allowed to join and count against the 85, and then he could play both sports.

That is the Bear Bryant Rule! The SEC made that rule after Bryant began signing swimmers who could swim and track men who couldn't track ... to play for his football team.

Can not play football on any scholarship other than a football scholarship. While on a football scholarship you can play any sport you want. IDK about playing baseball on a basketball scholarship. Or vice versa.

Football over everything else. Basketball over everything other than football. I think baseball over anything other than football or basketball. After this I believe there are a set of rules that define how to apply them to multisports. Don't have the motivation to look them up at the moment.

Below are the relevant rules. I thought baseball was mentioned, but it is not:
quote:

15.5.9.1 Football. [FBS/FCS] In football, a counter who was recruited (per Bylaw 15.02.9) and/or offered financial aid to participate in football and who participates (practices or competes) in football and one or more sports (including basketball) shall be counted in football. A counter who was not recruited (per Bylaw 15.02.9) and/or offered financial aid to participate in football and who competes in football and one or more sports (including basketball) shall be counted in football. (Revised: 1/10/95 effective 8/1/95, 1/9/96 effective 8/1/96, 1/15/11 effective 8/1/11)

15.5.9.1.1 Initial Counter. [FBS/FCS] A counter who previously has not been counted in football shall be considered an initial counter even though the student-athlete already has received countable financial aid in another sport.

15.5.9.2 Basketball. A counter who practices or competes in basketball and one or more other sports (other than football) shall be counted in basketball.

15.5.9.3 Ice Hockey, Men’s. A counter who practices or competes in men’s ice hockey and one or more other sports (other than football or basketball) shall be counted in men’s ice hockey. (Adopted: 1/16/93 effective 8/1/93)

15.5.9.4 Swimming and Diving/Water Polo, Men’s. A counter who practices or competes in both men’s swimming and diving and men’s water polo at a member institution shall be counted in men’s swimming and diving, unless he counts in football or basketball.

15.5.9.5 Volleyball, Women’s. A counter who practices or competes in women’s volleyball and one or more other sports (other than basketball) shall be counted in women’s volleyball.

15.5.9.5.1 Participation in Women’s Volleyball in Second Year of Enrollment After Counter Status in Women’s Beach Volleyball in First Year of Enrollment. A student-athlete who was a counter in women’s beach volleyball during her initial year of full-time enrollment at the certifying institution and participates (practices and competes) in women’s volleyball during her second year of full-time enrollment at the certifying institution shall be a counter in women’s volleyball for her initial year of full-time enrollment at the certifying institution. (Adopted: 1/15/11 effective 8/1/11)

15.5.9.6 Two-Year Exception. If an individual has participated in a sport other than basketball or women’s volleyball for two years or more since the individual’s initial collegiate enrollment and would be involved only in basketball or women’s volleyball practice sessions, such a student would not become a counter in those sports until the student actually competes as a member of the institution’s intercollegiate team, at either the varsity or junior varsity level. (Revised: 1/10/95 effective 8/1/95, 1/9/96 effective 8/1/96, 1/9/06 effective 8/1/06)

15.5.9.7 Other Sports. Except as otherwise provided in this section, a counter who participates in two or more sports shall be counted in one of the sports but shall not be counted in the others.

Hasn’t this been explained at length? Way to just answer the question without a joke or sarcasm. Props!

Kid told Hebert he is only playing basketball. He said” he enjoyed basketball more and was his best shot at pro ball.” Also enjoys football but not in His Future.

Baseball isn’t a full scholarship sport so its probably behind all full scholarship sports the only rule i believe is they have to compete in the sport they are on scholarship first and foremost to not count towards the 11.7.

I am not sure if a baseball player is on scholarship for another sport if they count towards the 27 max that can be on scholarship. If that’s the case then the school would have to split the 11.7 amongst 26 not 27.
