That after the disaster of 2008, Les had maybe his greatest signing class. We're in good shape to do the same this cycle, so please, don't go crazy with the doom and gloom.
If you want to complain, complain about us having only one 5th year Sr, while the team we played had about 18. We need to do better at retention.

How can you retain these kids that are superstars?

I saw that stat and thought that's the difference in the two programs. We both recruit top talent but if you can get some to stay five years, there talent will be fully developed !

You can't the guy above is being delusional. That 09 class was ultimately so good that it ended up producing a lot of early departures. The seperation is bama has had those type of classes more frequently and it showed last night. Between us missing on a few guys and not looking forward that those guys would leave early because they were so talented, we dropped the ball. This class should close the gap though despite what the doom and gloomers say.

It's not the Superstars that wind up 5th year Seniors. The guys we played last night have just as many leave early as we do, but manage to hold on to everyone else.

WTF are you talking about? I'm not complaining about players leaving for the NFL, Im complaining about the ones we sign that leave for other reasons.

Absolutely right. LSU has a few (but not nearly as many as some think) talent issues and the answer is recruiting. We need to be all in for a top tier class and if we can lock up even most of our targets the recent disappointments will become distant memories.

Top talent won't stay 5 years for any team. You get 4 if you're really lucky.

Getting Mosley and McCarron to stay was huge for Bama.

Correct. It will just hurt us for the recruits were starting to talk to now for say 2016-2017.

YES...someone finally has it right.

Our problems have less to do with coaching, and on the field development (although we do need to address this) and mostly retention. Let me rephrase it this way...R E T E N T I O N...

A program has to think two and even three years forward. Having number ONE classes year after year can only carry you so far..

'Bama and Saban have been far more successful at Retention than we (or any) program in recent years. Once you recruit top talent, you have to KEEP top talent.

That is all......

Fact ... Mosley an McCarron are the heart and soul of that team. Think of where we'd be if any two of Minter and Logan or Reid had had stayed.

Ill wait to complain after February. I just hope the talent in Louisiana has a sense of pride in playing for their state and bonding with other top Louisiana natives to do the same….because Les isn't going to put them in a position to succeed, he enjoys watching.

2008: #1
2009: #1
2010: #5
2011: #1
2012: #1
2013: #1
and so far 2014: #1

2008: #11
2009: #2
2010: #6
2011: #6
2012: #18
2013: #6
and so far 2014: #15

The 2009 class at #2 played it's role on defense, the 2011 6th ranked class is now playing it's role on offense.

The 18th ranked 2012 class is showing why it was ranked 18th.

The 2013 6th ranked class is already showing promise early with Robinson and White. The 2014 class even with 75% of our remaining high profile targets, will still be a top 5 class.

I've went back and looked over it and the one bad year of 2012 is to blame for weak defensive play. Aside from 2008's 11th ranked class, We have been no worse than 6th in that time span. Couple it with the majority of the incredible 2009 class leaving last year + the 2010 class with Reid, Mathieu, Simon, and it was a perfect storm.

Of course all of it can't simply boil down to recruiting but this is the difference between Alabama and everybody else. This is the difference between a so so team, and a dynasty.

Biggest problem for this team is retention. Not sure how you get these kids to stay. Look at Stanford, 15 of 22 defensive 1 and 2's, seniors. This problem will hit us again this year. Bama gets the Jones, McCarron's, Mosley's to stay

What happened the year before the 2008 disaster? What happened last year? Big difference.

To add to that, what did Bama do before that? What have they done the last 5 years? That's who you're competing with for all of the talent we're targeting.

And tell me why the poor class in 2012. Could the BCS shite coaching adjustments (none) have anything to do with the poor recruiting class?

Moseley staying was shocking. I don't know how they managed to account for the scholarship requirements with their incoming classes.

Exaggerate much?

Just because they had a bunch of guys graduate doesn't mean they are all 5th year seniors.

They had 7 5th year seniors and only 2 of those were on defense.

LSU has Loston, Barrow, Mettenberger, and Tahj Jones.

That means LSU has more 5th year seniors on defense than Bama.

Whether people on here want to believe it or not, there isn't that much of a difference in talent between LSU and the team 2 states over. There were 3 huge mistakes in that game that really gave them all that they needed to finish us off. If we don't make those mistakes, it might have been a very different game. Our kids showed up to play and played with emotion. They just couldn't sustain it. You can't go into the #1 team in the country's house, make those mistakes and expect to win. What I seen was a better disciplined TEAM beat a team that's still trying to figure things out. The players seemed to just throw in the towel. Miles will right this ship. We will have at the very least, another top5 class.(most likely 1 or 2) I'm not willing to throw in the towel on CLM. When he has a UF type season it will be different. The defense will be better next year to pick up the slack from the losses on offense. Can't say the offense will take a huge step back cause we really don't know what we have in Jennings yet. He will have a year and a half under Cam come the beginning of next year. If we can find the receivers to pick up the slack, We'll contend next year. However our season is looking to be 15' and history says the same. 03' 07' 11' 15'. We just have to be patient. And yeah we lost the title in 11' but had we faced any other team. We undefeated national champions. End of rant. Fwiw I do believe that Les was out coached Saturday night, but there aren't many coaches in the country that wouldn't have been.
