Just like Ismael and Rodney.

Way I look at it is McKinley is a bigger and better high school player than Wiggins was coming out of high school. Whether he’s a 5* or not is irrelevant. Whoever gets him is going to have to develop him regardless of whether he is overrated as a star recruit. If it clicks, you have an All-SEC player. If it doesn’t, it won’t be the first 5* recruit who never pans out.

Honestly, whether he turns out to be elite or not LSU needs to lock down the state.
You never know what other recruits will come out of his school and also be elite

LSU just needs to convince him why this is the place he needs to play.

This aspect can’t be ignored and definitely makes it worth making a big push for McKinley now, especially combined with the optics of dominating LA recruiting. These are seeds that can grow into better things in the future.
I wasn’t as big on committing the NIL that will be needed to land McKinley earlier on the process because of the common knocks on him. He has huge upside, but he’s likely not a day one contributor for a defense that needs at least depth support on the DL. But at this point in the process with no other options on the board for this class, he’s a take. Hopefully our next DL Coach sticks for a while and gets him on the field as a full contributor in year two.

Wiggins feels like a casualty of the constant turnover at the DL Coach spot. Maybe that wouldn’t have mattered, but there wasn’t much of a chance to develop a guy who was known to be a project without some consistency there.

Agree.
Wiggins was essentially coach-less for 2 years. For a guy who came into college with a great frame and potential that desperately needed coaching and development, it was a bad fit. Hopefully a new DC and new defensive staff will be around to develop the Wiggins’s of the future whether it’s McKinley or others.
